Editing Quizmaker '13 in/outside PP file

Jul 31, 2014

When you're using PP 2013 and have Quizmaker 2013 slides in it, should you edit the Quizmaker file by opening Quizmaker from within PP or by opening the Quizmaker file outside of it? I have been doing the former but when I open it up outside of PP the edits are not there. So, when I want to print just the Quizmaker slides to Word, then it doesn't show the edits, so it interrupts my work flow. Is the answer just to edit Quizmaker files outside of the PP file if using PP with the project? Any downsides to this?

Thanks much,

Rachel

Good Afternoon, Rachel.

When you insert an Articulate Quizmaker quiz or Articulate Engage interaction into your Articulate Presenter course, a copy of the original *.quiz or *.intr file is stored in the course's *.ppta file. This means that if you ever lose the original quiz or interaction file, you'll still be able to edit and publish it in Presenter.

When you preview or publish your course, Presenter compares the timestamps of the original quiz/interaction file and the copy in your course's *.ppta file. If the original file is newer, the cached copy gets updated to reflect the changes. If the original file is missing, Presenter uses the cached copy instead.

If you find that your course previews and publishes as expected (but that the original .quiz file isn't current), that indicates that at some point, Presenter couldn't find the .quiz file it needed from the hard drive, and thus started using the one saved inside of the .ppta file.

This article includes instructions for extracting the .quiz file from your .ppta file if you need to use it outside of Presenter.

Please let us know if you need anything else, and have a great day!

Good Morning, Rachel.

If 7-Zip isn't behaving as expected, you may want to take a look at the Tools Menu within 7-Zip to see if you can make it work with a settings change somewhere in there. Alternatively, you could reach out to 7-Zip support, or you can try using another compression tool such as WinZip or PKZIP.

Good luck with your project!

I inadvertently had the 32-bit of 7-Zip downloaded when I needed the 64-bit downloaded, so that issue is resolved.

I followed your instructions (the hyperlink "this article") and I got 4 numbered files in the embedded folder.

Of the 4 numbered folders, 2 of them appeared to have given me a good file (1 Quizmaker and the 1 Engage file), but with the other 2 folders, the file in the folder looks like this. I double clicked on it, got an error message, then I tried to browse to open the file with Quizmaker and I couldn't browse to it. Do you know why I would get a file that doesn't work (see image below)? I did move these files from another computer without creating an Articulate Package. Also, this module was started in '09 and now using '13.
