eMail Quiz Results: A new problem?
Sep 05, 2011

Hello,
There are a number of posts regarding how to email quiz results...but they don't seem to address this problem.
Publishing a quiz embedded in Presenter to the web and uploading to my server. I am able to print the results perfectly but not able to email it. When I try, I get an addressed email as configured but the contents are always blank.
I've changed settings ad nauseum but nothing seems to work.
Has anyone encountered and solved this?
Thanks for reading this...
Fred

Some of our customers are successfully sending Quizmaker results via PHP, but this is not a method supported by us. You can learn more here:

Brian,
Much obliged. I did see this online but am a bit reluctant to use itbecause of the disclaimer.
It is odd, though, that the email feature works fine inFirefox. So what could be preventing it from sending in IE? Anyideas?
Fred
Hi Fred,
To eliminate any browser issues in Internet Explorer go to Tools -> Internet Options under the Security, Privacy and Advanced tabs make sure that everything is set to their default settings. Under the Program tab make sure that you have selected your mail program.
Alternatively, you may need to go into your Control Panel, search for the "Default Programs" tool, choose Outlook (or whatever email program you're using), and click on Set this program as default.
Brian,
Everything is on default as you suggest. But still no results in email.
Fred
Hi Fred,
There's likely a setting deep within IE that is preventing the emailed results from working as expected. If you want a more reliable solution that doesn't rely on browser settings, I'd recommend looking at the PHP email results solution.
Thanks Brian. I'll give it a try.
As I understand your tutorial, it becomes a simple matter of copying the files you have provided over to the published folder. Is that correct?
Fred
Hi Fred,
Yes and no...you also have to make sure that your server supports the sendmail.php function. For more information, see the screencast below:

I have the same problem, I added the Print and email options in Quizmaker and when I publish in Presenter and run the presentation, the email button doesn't do anything (I tried to send on Outlook account and webmail account) and the print button opens the results in a browser window instead of just opening the Printing window.
Is there any way to solve this except having an LMS ? We want to publish our courses on a web host, not SCORM or AICC compliant.
Thank you in adavance for your help,
Rodica

Like Fred, I cannot make the email function work with IE. Opening a survey/quiz in Firefox will create an email in Outlook, exactly as expected, but no matter what I tweak in IE - nothing!
Any ideas?
Hi Frank & welcome to Heroes,
When you click the button to email your quiz results, you may find that nothing happens or possibly a blank email with no information is sent.
Quizmaker relies on client-side mail programs, such as Outlook, to send email results. Tighter security restrictions in modern browsers, operating systems, anti-virus programs, and anti-spam programs can interfere with this process. Also, some mail applications, such as Lotus Notes and Groupwise, do not allow JavaScripts or HTML submits, which means the email results feature will not work with these programs.
If it works in other browsers, then that means there's a security setting in Internet Explorer that is causing the issue. Typically, resetting IE to its defaults will resolve the issue, but not always.
Brian,
The link for Presenter '09 does not work for the PHP instructions. Is there a new location?
Thank you,
Ginger
Hi Ginger & welcome to Heroes,
It looks like the forums added an extra space to the end of the URL. Here's a working link:

Brian,
I finally found what I needed to, but get a Java Script error, screenshot above. Our facility uses Articulate for compliance trainings, so I need to get this resolved ASAP. What do you suggest?
Thank you,
Ginger
Hi Ginger,
Windows doesn't allow you to run JavaScript files by double-clicking them. You'll need to edit the file by right-clicking it & choosing to open it in Notepad.
Brian,
Would it be possible to speak? I'm not familiar with creating a .php and since I'm publishing to a network drive, I don't have a FTP.
Hi Ginger,
PHP files will not work on a network drive. They require a server that has PHP support.
