How can I save a quiz template

Sep 12, 2017

I've created a new quiz template, where the result slides have their own layout. I want to use this template for all my courses.

When I try to save this as a quizmaker template, the option is not available.
The "save as" tab is in grey, so I can not click on this. When I just click on save  the *.quiztemplate-format is not listed as an option.

Any idea why this is not working, and how I can save the template?

Thanks!

Hi Alyssa, so I've been able to save the quiztemplate, but now am unable to use it to create a new quiz. In attachment the instructions I've found. But I can not find the option to "create a quiz from template" anywhere on my start screen in Quizmaker. Any ideas what I'm doing wrong?

Sorry to be so confusing!

But I've look a bit further and discovered that I need to work directly in Quizmaker 360 to start from a quiz template.
However, I've created my template and made a new quiz staring from that template. I figured "save as" would mean I made a new *.quiz format and the orginal *.quiztemplate would remain unchanged.

But when I click "save as" to save my new quiz, it overwrites the quiztemplate and that template is gone and I now only have a *.quiz format left. So my template is gone. Even if I use the template from one location and save the new quiz in a different location, the template version is gone.
How can I keep the template around to use it for other new quizzes?

Thanks, and again, apologies for the multiple posts here...

Hi Bieke,

When you clicked "Save As", did you give the file a new name? If you saved with the same name, then it will overwrite the original file.

To prevent that from happening in the future, follow these steps:

  1. Launch a new Articulate Quizmaker file.
  2. On the Quizmaker start screen, click From quiz template.
  3. Browse to the *.quiztemplate file you want to use and click Open.
  4. A new quiz will be created with all the settings and content from the template. Edit the quiz as you’d like, then save and publish it.

I saved with a new name, and saved it in a different location as well. Does the original quiztemplate need to be stored in a certain location? It automically goes to my local drive now. But when I use the template to create a new quiz, the original template still dissapears. Even if I save it with a new name. Very strange!

Hi Bieke,

The local drive is the best place to store you project files, so you're doing the right thing there. Would it be possible for you to record your screen while you are creating a new quiz from a quiz template? I'd like to get a better understanding of your steps, and a video would be very helpful. Thanks!

Hi, we seem to be having the exact same issue as Bieke Helsen noted above. I viewed the video shared and the same thing is happening in our software.

We need to have a template created and also be able to make additional quizzes from it but it's disappearing. Could you please contact us with the solution too?

Hello Casey and welcome to E-Learning Heroes :)

Sorry to hear that you've run into a similar issue.

We were able to replicate the issue that Bieke reported above. This thread is attached to the report as well so that we can update when we can.

I wanted to share some information on how we define bugs and how we tackle them when they occur.

As a workaround, you can duplicate the quiz template first (either on the same folder or a different one), before creating and saving a new quiz based on this template. This way when the original one gets deleted, you have an extra copy of the template that you can still use in the future.

Hope that helps. You are welcome to edit your post above if you need to remove your e-mail address :)

I too am still experiencing the same issue as Bieke and Casey.

I saved a quiz template to a folder on my local drive. Each time I use the saved template to create a new quiz, I save and publish the quiz with a new title, but then the template disappears from the original folder. I tried the Save As option, and the regular Save option to save the new quiz only. Neither has worked to create a new quiz, while leaving the original Quiz Template in-place. Each time I want to use the quiz template, I have to re-download it and put it back in its original folder on my local drive.

Is there a fix for this issue yet? Or are users still being advised to use the following workaround:

"As a workaround, you can duplicate the quiz template first (either on the same folder or a different one), before creating and saving a new quiz based on this template. This way when the original one gets deleted, you have an extra copy of the template that you can still use in the future."
