images still too large

Nov 12, 2012

My images are still too large. I made it 1.5 x 1.1 inches and still the hotspot area is not in view. If there is someone in the community that uses Quizmaker for student assessment that is willing to take the time to contact me directly, I wou;d very much appreciate it. I am able to monitor mail 7-midnight Eastern. I have played around with this for months, purchased the book , consulted with folks and I still cannot post this project. Thanks in advance.

Hi Marsha!

Please don't post your personal contact information in the public forums. I've edited your message and removed the email address. If you'd like someone to contact you privately, just ask them to send you a private message through the forums. You can share your email address with them through private messages, but keep in mind that our forum does provide email notifications when you receive new private messages as well.

In regards to your images. Are they being cut off, or are you not able to see them at all?

If you can, take a screenshot so we can see what's going on with the images.

  • To take a screenshot:

You can take a screenshot by pressing ALT+Print Screen. Then paste (CTRL+V) into a Word document. Save the document and attach it to this post by using the paperclip icon.

Good morning Marsha!

The personal information you posted isn't a big problem, we just want to protect your personal information. The forums can be viewed by anyone and we don't want your information to fall into the hands of someone that might use it for malicious purposes. No memos out just yet, just want to make sure your information is safe

Thank you very much for sharing the screenshots. I can definitely see how this is a problem. The first image is very crisp and clear, and the second image looks like it tried to fit in the original size of the image and didn't scale down. How are you inserting the image?

In Quizmaker you can edit the side and position of the image in Slide view. Quizmaker uses two different zoom functions. One is flash based and one is html based. It depends on the size of the image. If the image is small enough that it fits within the dimensions of the quiz it will zoom via the flash function. If the image is larger than that then it uses zoom.html.

What web browser are you using? If you plan on hosting the content online I would test the content online. If you are viewing the content locally in Internet Explorer 6 on a WinXP SP2 or higher machine the zoom may not work due to increased security. If you publish a presentation and view the content on your local drive, your web objects may not appear as expected. This is due to increased security with modern web browsers and Flash player. To test a web object, we recommend you test the content in the environment you have published for, such as on a web server via a valid HTTP address, an LMS, or Articulate Online. You can publish a presentation for CD and view the content locally and most web objects will display properly. However, if you don't intend on distributing your content via CD, we strongly encourage you to test your content where you intend to host it.

There are also a few articles you may want to read, that might help with this issue.

This article provides some information about improving image quality. Take a look at the first section about scaling.

This screencast will show you how to improve the resolution and quality for zoomed images in Quizmaker (please note that this method is not supported by Articulate).

This article will walk you through adding the zoom tool on an image in Quizmaker. (Probably won't fix the issue, but you might want this feature in the future when working with images).

If you are still unable to get your image to show up the way you'd like, you are welcome to share your quiz here. I'd be happy to take a look. If you don't want the public to see your quiz, you can send it to me in a private message, as well.

Have a great day!

Hi Marsha,

Right, I completely understand. However, the best way to test your presentation is by publishing it. Some content may not display properly in previews, so it's best to test it in the environment for which it's intended. You could always use the 30 day free trial for Articulate Online. That should give you more than enough time to test your images

Let me know how it turns out!

I have read the documents on scaling before.. I wish I understood more of it. I have used the suggested image sizes. I have locked the option in quizmaker. I do not have issues with screener or videos or images in presenter. I still do not have a solution and no one on campus uses quizmaker. It seems like such a waste, but at this rate the semester is almost over. I will go back to hotspot on Blackboard. I do not have the freeform option (musculoskeletal anatomy is not linear) , which is why I purchased this part of the package, but at least they can see the image.
