Is there a way to get raw data out of quizmkr? w/o LMS or Online?

May 10, 2011

I'm a new Articulate user, finding many things about the tool very easy to manipuate and understand, but one question I have I fear has only the answer of "that will cost extra." I need to be able to pull raw data out of a course built in Articulate Studio (core presenter course with engage, quizmaker, 3rd party flash objs, video content.) I don't need extensive tracking on student performance over time and improvements in quiz scores. I just need to know student x, date, score. (Student x can be uniquely indentified or generic. Unique ID is better but generic is acceptable too.)

Is there a way for me to pull that data out of quizmaker or presenter? We will be hosting this course within our pay wall, so we alread control who has access to it. Would like to be able to report on how well the student population is doing on the course as a whole. This is part of the core business case for this eLearning effort at my client and I'm concerned that our only option at this point is to have the additional outlay of cash for Articulate Online.

Thanks in advance!

Hi Karen and welcome to Heroes,

Quizmaker is designed primarily as an elearning development tool to be used in conjunction with Articulate Online or your own Learning Management System (LMS).  You can track and report quiz and survey results via stand-alone Quizmaker quizzes or those embedded in Articulate Presenter using a number of methods.

For the best results and most accurate reporting, we recommend Articulate Online:

You can sign up for a free 30-day trial of Articulate Online here:

Your own SCORM- or AICC-compliant Learning Management System (LMS) will also provide accurate tracking capabilities.  Here are some open-source options for tracking quiz results:

   *  Dokeos:  http://daveperso.mediaenglishonline.com/2009/10/29/getting-your-own-lms-part-1-dokeos-campus/

   *  eFront:  http://daveperso.mediaenglishonline.com/2009/12/23/getting-your-own-lms-part-2-efront/

   *  Docebo:  http://daveperso.mediaenglishonline.com/2010/01/22/getting-your-own-lms-part-3-docebo/

   *  Moodle:  http://www.mozealous.com/upload-and-track-a-quizmaker-09-quiz-in-moodle/

Some of our customers are successfully sending Quizmaker results via PHP or by using a database, but these methods are not supported by Articulate.  You can learn more about these methods here:

Thanks for the quick reply, Brian. We are not using an LMS, it's a unique environment where my client is providing eLearning courses to THEIR clients. Confusing to explain, but no LMS now or planned anytime in the future. Using Articulate Online might be feasible, but given that I had not anticipated nor budgeted the costs, I'm trying to explore other options first. I was able to see the second link that talks through a database app and code that will pull content from the quizmaker quizzes and place in a database, but I couldn't access the first link, had a 404 error on that one. Can you help me find the right page, as i think the emailing results would be an acceptable workaround for where we are in our eLearning deployment.

Thanks so much!
