Link to a picture

May 04, 2012

Some of my questions require the student to view a picture or to look at a document. I haven't been able to figure out how to create a link on a particular question that will open the picture or document in a separate window so they can view it to answer the question. Is this possible in Quizmaster?

Hi David,

I just now tested this and was able to do it by linking to a picture on my local hard drive. Not sure if that was your question...but anyway:

1. Locate the picture (or document) in Windows Explorer.

2. Right-click on the little tab that appears on the bar to the right of the address to display the shortcut menu (see picture)

3. Click copy address.
Note that the file name itself won't be included, so make a note of it.

4. Back in QuizMaker, select the text that should contain the link (I worked in Slide View)

5. Click Insert Hyperlink and

6. IMPORTANT:

remove the http:\\

Insert // before the address

Insert this slash (\) at the end of the address and then type in the file name. Here's an example of what mine looked like:

//C:\Users\Becky\Documents\dtafiles\digital pix\kitchen plants.jpg

I can create a Screenr (a video tutorial) for this if that would be helpful.

Here's what the QuizMaker documentation says about hyperlinks:

Adding Hyperlinks in Form View
Quizmaker ’09 allows you to link any selected text or object to a webpage, picture, an email address,
or a program.
To use the Insert or Edit Hyperlink dialog:
1. Highlight or select the text or object you wish to link.
2. Click the Hyperlink button to open the Insert or Edit Hyperlink dialog.
3. Input or edit the text in the Text to display field (only applicable when linking text, not other
objects).
4. Enter the link in the Address field.
5. Click the Test button to test if the address is valid.
6. Click the desired radio button to specify where the hyperlink should launch:
l Display in new browser window: Select this option to launch your link in a new
browser window. Optionally, click the Default browser controls at default size link
to change new window preferences. New Browser Window Properties include the
following:
l Browser controls: Select from the following options:
l Default
l No Address Bar
l No Browser Controls
l Window size: Select from the following options:
l Default
l Full-screen
l Custom, which allows you to specify Width and Height values (in pixels)
of the new browser window by inputting the values or by using the up and
down arrows to specify the values
l Display in current browser window: Select this option to launch your link in the
current browser window (same as the quiz or survey). Note that if you choose this
option, a user who clicks on the link will be taken to the link, leaving the quiz or survey
behind, so typically you’d only want to use this option at the end of a quiz or survey, or
at a point where you’re comfortable having your users exit the quiz or survey.
7. Click Save to create the hyperlink.
To edit or remove a hyperlink:
