make quiz restart the learning module

Apr 05, 2011

Hi Guys,

I am new to Quizmaker, but my client likes it so I am learning it.  That said, I do have a challenge I need help with.

I am uploading my quizzes to a custom LMS based on Ilias. The output for he quiz is SCORM 2004.

The quiz seems to work great but I need a certain function that tech support tells me is not available in Quizmaker.

In our modules, we require the student to watch a flash video and then take a quiz based on that video.

here is the challenge:

If the student fails the quiz, I need to be able to send them back to the video to make them watch the content again.

I can currently send them to a URL, or close the window, but there is no place to write code and send them elsewhere.

Does anyone know how I might accomplish this feat?  Can I alter a javascript file after the quiz is published? If so, which file?

Thanks for the reply.  I can't tell you how frustrating this is.

We are a media company and are specialty is creating content, not SCORM quizzes.

Unfortunately, Presenter is based on Power Point, something our client hates, and it lacks the ability to customize the flash player (which our client has spent a considerable sum to do). So using Presenter would undermine the user experience and presentation that the client has worked so hard to achieve.  It would be a step backwards not forwards in this case.

Is there no way to access the source code? How about offering a Non Disclosure Agreement, and let my programmers simply make the changes necessary for this simple function to take place?

At the very least, is it possible to explain WHY it is not possible to link back to the beginning of the SCORM module from the quizzes? Maybe in that explanation my programmers can gain some inside to another solution.   This ability to link back to the beginning ot the module if a student fails the quiz, is absolutely necessary for this project.

Perhaps you know of an .xml solution, or program that might help?  Any info is helpful at this point.

thanks

Hi William,

One option would be to do what Justin mentioned (publish the quiz to a presentation) and then publish the presentation using a skin that hides the Articulate player.  This would give the end-user the impression that this was only a quiz, but it would have the functionality that you need.

To download the skin, see the "How do you do it?" section in the link below:

Modifying the source code is actually a violation of our EULA. You can pretty easily create a customized player template that would certainly not look like a PowerPoint presentation.

The reason you can't go back to some point in a quiz to retake it is there is no function in Quizmaker that would allow you to do that. Like you said, you can send them to a URL or you can have them close the browser window. Quizmaker was not designed to allow you to retake a quiz within the same session unless it is in a Presenter presentation.
