Are you using Articulate 360? If so, building this kind of interaction in Storyline 360 sounds like your best bet. In Storyline, you can add layers or even pop-up markers that will reveal a hint when the learner clicks a button.
If you're limited to Quizmaker, then I would suggest using more than one attempt for the interaction. Then, when the learner gets the question incorrect on the first attempt, they'll see the Try Again layer. You can add a hint on this layer that will help the learner on their next attempt.

Hi Alyssa
Thanks for a response, I'm using Quizmaker and using multiple responce wouldn't help. I may give Storyline a go on a trial and see if it works.
Sounds like a plan, Gareth! Let me know if you need any help along the way.
