Question Numbering in List?

Mar 19, 2018

Hi everyone,

I'm hoping someone can show me how to enable a feature in QuizMaker 360 that was very useful back in the days of Studio '09.

Basically, all I want to do is have the question list show which question number the student is on, out of the entire set of questions selected. For example, suppose I have a 100 question quiz (which I really do). I'd like the user to be able to see something like "Question 42 of 100" in the Question List. (Please see attached image QuestionList09.png, which shows this feature in Studio 09.) The beauty of this is that it does not allow navigation, and cannot even be selected. It's only purpose is to help you know how far along you are, which is critical for longer tests.

So far all I can figure out how to do is show a full question list that lists the question text itself, but this is not helpful because the questions aren't numbered, and many questions begin the same way, making the text meaningless. (Please see attached image QuestionList360.png). It's also extremely difficult for users to tell us about problems if they cannot easily identify a question. In Studio 09, a user could email us and say "I think there's an issue with Question 17." Right now there's not a good way of doing this, and we really, really do not want to work around this by manually adding numbers to the start of questions, because if we ever add or remove a question, then I have to manually change every question number. All we need is for the list to say "Question X of Y", and ideally not be clickable.

I hope this isn't something that was removed from Studio 09! It's a very useful feature. Can someone steer me in the right direction? Thank you!

EDIT: I did some more digging and found this dialog box in an old tutorial for 09. This is exactly what I'm searching for in 360! (See the highlighted option in LayoutOptions09.png). Please tell me this exists somewhere?

Hey Andrew,

This feature from Quizmaker '09 is not included in Quizmaker 360.

Using the question list is a good route as well as including the question number in the Question Title if it's not a randomized quiz is how I've seen other users take this on in the meantime.

I'm submitting a feature request on your behalf.

I wanted to share some information about how we manage these feature requests as that may be helpful.

Hi Leslie,

It's certainly a bummer it was removed, but I do thank you for submitting the feature request for me! I think many users in addition to myself would love to have it. People in general like being able to identify questions by a question number, and this does that without any time-consuming workarounds.

The current question list unfortunately doesn't do anything to help us because it isn't numbered, and many questions begin with the same question stem, making it hard to uniquely identify questions. And, as I'd mentioned, we can't add question numbers manually to the beginning of each question because (A) the quiz is randomized, and (B) if we ever add/delete/move a question, the entire quiz needs to be manually renumbered.

I appreciate your quick response, and I certainly hope this is a feature your devs add back in! I'm surprised it ever went away, TBH.

Have a great day!

Andy
