quiz hangs up the ppt presentation

Aug 21, 2012

I opened an old quiz we had in Quizmaker 9. I made changes, and then saved it as a new name. I published it as a slide into my ppt presentation. But now when I try to click on it to change the properties, or anything, the hourglass just spins and spins, and never does anything. The ppt doesn't freeze, it just hangs there. I have to force close it via task manager.

I looked at the error report, and it said something about the app hanging, and looking for Ap6.exe. I don't have articulate 6, just version 9. Is it looking for the version it was originally created in? I thought that if I saved and renamed it in 9 it would erase any old properties.

Is there any way to get this to work? Or do I have to create it from scratch fresh in version 9?

Thanks,

Michelle

Hi Michelle.

Are your files located on your local C drive and not a network drive? Are the files located in a directory path that is shorter than 256 characters? Are the files themselves using any special characters? Any of these could be causing an issue.

I would make sure that you are not working on a network drive and that the path is short enough to each file location and that there are no special characters in the file names or directories. Like if you delete the slide that contains your quiz and quit out of PowerPoint. Move the .QUIZ file and the PowerPoint file to a location on your local drive and then try adding it again.

Hi Justin,

My files are on my C:/ drive, not on the network. And the directory path is short, no special characters. After restarting again, I opened ppt, and started a new blank presentation.

So, with one blank slide, I saved it as test.ppt. I clicked on the quizmaker button on the Articulate ribbon, to try to add an existing quiz I just used for something else, that I know works. It hung up again, spinning and spinning until I finally forced it closed. The error is below. Amy thoughts for me? It seems like I can't work on anything now.

I created a brand new quiz file. But now I can't even get to the point to choose a particular quiz.

To test it, I created a new blank ppt presentation, and clicked the quizmaker button to add a quiz. Then it hung-up, and never went any further. I never got to the menu for me to choose a quiz.

It seems like Articulate in general is hosed. Is there a way to "restart" the software? I tried restarting my computer, several times. Is there a preferences file or cache file in Articulate that I can delete, so it will start fresh?

Hi There

I'm having the same issues, and have done all the check is the list here Justin, but still it is freezing. I have a trial version (and desperately waiting for a license key), and I'm wondering if this is the issue. I am worried this will continue to be an issue, and I'm trying to 'sell' the use of this platform to others here. Any advice? It seems very related to quizmaker.

Good morning Linda. Welcome to E-Learning Heroes!

First, be sure that you're working with files that are local. Work on your local drive (your C: drive). Working on a network drive or a USB drive can cause erratic behavior, including file corruption, loss of audio, and other unexpected behavior.

You might want to take a look at this knowledge base article and see if the steps provided resolve the issue.

If you still see this error after following the instructions in the article, please let us know.

Thanks!
