Quiz Project freezing every time

Apr 19, 2013

I created a quiz in Quizmaker and for some reason it freezes at #18 every time. I previewed in the software then "republished" and still have the same problem.  Can any one give me a hand with this?

Hi Allie! I hope you're doing well :)

Thanks for posting the file. I took a look and I experienced the same problem. However, I noticed that the freeze actually happens when I attempted to move on from question 18 to question 19.

I went into question 19 and I saw that there was a blank placeholder for a video there. I deleted the ghost video (just to see if this was the issue) and tried testing the file again. The quiz moves just find past question 18 now.

So, it looks like it's an issue with the video that's on question 19. Can you try deleting and re-inserting that video and see if you have better luck with the quiz?

If you're unable to get it to work, are you able to share the video file for that question? I'd be happy to try it out and see if I can get it working for you.

Thanks!

Christine

Hi Allie,

I apologize for the delay, I'm no longer in the office. However, I did take a quick look and I inserted the file you attached.

Seems to be working pretty well (though, I admit I didn't scale it down quite as much).

Here's a published version, if you'd like to take a look:

Testing for Allie

I'm also attaching the modified file, if you'd like to test it on your machine.

I hope you have a great weekend,

Christine

Hi again Christine,

This test item has killed my time today.  You may want to look at it more closely.  It seems "buggy".  I am no longer able to see video in the form or slide view, so it makes edits very difficult.  I can only see what video is in a test from the "preview" window.  I know this was not the case before.  I just downloaded an "update".  I think I finally have the test  fixed, but not easy.  I had several full crashes of my Articulate along the way.  I also had to run that video through multiple compressions until I found one that worked.  I was not able to get my video encoder from Articulate to work at all. It was open and.. freeze.    Please let me know on the video viewing and the encoder when you get a chance next week.

Thanks!!

Allie

I sent a screencast to better demonstrate what I mean here.  I don't know if the audio is there because my audio is out on my computer.  I think it will make sense either way!  Thanks!!

Good morning Allie. I hope you had a great weekend!

Sorry to hear you're still working with this. I'm afraid I cannot test the original file you attached in the Video Encoder, because it's not a supported format.

Here's an article that lists supported media files for the Video Encoder:

Articulate Support > Importing Video Files

Thanks for the video, too! I do see what you mean about the video not being in the slide, but I'm afraid you're right - I didn't hear any audio. I'm not running into this issue with the file you attached (other than on question 19) or the updated file I attached.

I'm concerned that you're experiencing crashing as well. I'm wondering if it's an issue with the file itself, or the installation of Quizmaker/Studio.

Can you confirm you're working with local files, please?

  • Work on your local drive (your C: drive). Working on a network drive or a USB drive can cause erratic behavior, including file corruption, loss of audio, and other unexpected behavior.
  • You should also make sure the directory path to your project files and your published output is less than 260 characters (for example C:\Articulate).
  • Avoid using special characters, accents or symbols in your file names.

Additional information regarding "Naming Files, Paths, and Namespaces" in Windows operating systems can be found in the following Microsoft article.

You also mentioned that you were able to save the video with a different format. Did you use another tool to convert this? If so, are you able to share the video here?

If you still experience crashing, you may want to follow the troubleshooting steps outlined in the following article (after confirming all project files are on your local hard drive):

Unexpected or erratic behavior in Articulate Studio '09

Thanks very much Allie!

Hi again Christine.  I am working with local files on my C drive.  Also, the video I was attempting to upload was compressed WITH  Articulate Video Encoder last year.  Also, I created new assessments in addition this weekend and ran into the same thing again and again and again.

The videos IN the file are all run through Articulate Video Encoder.

I had to solve the problem using Adobe Media Encoder.  On each of the videos that were causing the freeze.

I am attaching a shot of my file.   doesn't seem to be a huge violation of your criteria.

PS are you getting horrible echo on that playback??

Thanks,

Allie

Good morning Allie!

Thanks very much for the video and the screenshot. No, I don't hear any echo - I'm assuming you mean in your recording, correct? Sounds good to me :)

Hmm. Did you have a chance to try the repair/reinstall steps I listed earlier? I'm actually not seeing the same thing at all with the file, so I'm wondering it it's an issue with the installation.

I'm also running the latest update, so I don't believe that it's related, but it is a possibility.

I'm curious - do you have access to another PC where you can test this file?

Thanks so much, Allie!

Christine
