Quiz won't load

Oct 17, 2012

Hello,

I am about to update one of courses on our LMS, but when I publish it and then view it, the quiz won't load.  I get the spinning circle.  It is currently working fine on the LMS.  I've tried publishing it to LMS and CD and neither work.  I've deleted the quiz and re-inserted it.  I've renamed it so there are no spaces.. Not sure what else to try.

I am using Studio '09 and Internet Explorer.

Any suggestions?

Hi Dayna!

I came across some information that may help with the issue you're having. It sounds like the file works locally, so maybe this information will help.

The original article can be found here.

"Quiz works locally, but doesn’t load on a web server

If your published Articulate Quizmaker '09 quiz plays properly on your local computer but will not load after you have uploaded it to your Web server, then it is likely that your XML files were corrupted during the upload process.

A common symptom is to see no content displayed in the quiz area during quiz playback.

To correct this behavior, either use the FTP upload feature of Articulate Quizmaker '09, or set your FTP application to upload files as binary. Uploading the XML files in ASCII or Auto transfer modes may cause corruption.

It is also important to maintain the directory structure of your published content."

I hope this helps!

Have a great day,

Christine

Thanks, but thiat tutorial is for stand-alone quizes.  Mine is part of a course.  :-(

And the key thing is... it's been working fine for the past 1.5 years, it's just now as I'm publishing an update that it's not working.  Oh, and another couple of notes:

  • I didn't make any changes to the quiz itself, and
  • each time before I publish it, I delete the files in the directory I'm publishing to as I've read that writing over previous published files sometimes causes problems

Hi Peter,

No, I'm not using Chrome.  I did find that article earlier and couldn't find anything in it that applied or would fix it.  Then I went back and tried making the file path shorter.  I had originally looked at the path and it was 145 characters so I felt it was fine.  With no other ideas, I tried shortening it to 125... and it worked!  Don't know why... but at least it was resolved.

Thanks!

I am having a similar problem. I have a large course that contains 16 quizzes throughout. One version is published to Articulate Online and it works fine. I am trying to publish the same course to a CD, which I've done multiple times, but each time a couple of the quizzes fail to load—and it's not the same quizzes each time that fail.

Is there a recommended file size cap? My ppt and its presenter file are about 700 MB collectively.

Also, I should be safe regarding all the recommendations in this link shared earlier in this thread.

Any suggestions? Thanks!
