Quiz won't load for student

Jun 15, 2011

I have several students using my QM09 tests. Only one student is having problems. The spinning wheel preloader spins and spins but the test never opens. She has the newest version of Flash installed. She is running Windows Vista. That's about all I know about her system.  What could I have her try as far as troubleshooting to get the test to open for her?

Thanks

Hi Larry,

Sounds like your student may be running Flash Player 10.2. If that's the case, Articulate has released an update that should fix the bug in your student's Flash Player. You can download the trial of Studio '09 here and install it over your existing version. You'll then want to republish/re-upload the quiz to where it is hosted, and ensure that your students are using the most recent version of Flash, which is currently 10.3.

And here's a thread discussing a similar experience in even more detail.

Hope this helps, and let me know if it does the trick. Good luck!

What if that student just installs the 10.3 version Flash player, should the test then work for her?

I just have the QM 09 stand alone product. Would I still download the Studio 09 link?

How can I tell what version of Flash Playing I have on my PC?

I am using QM 09:  v3.3.1009.1313   is this the most current?  If not, were do I download the most current version of QM 09?

Hi Larry,

Here's a report on the actual bug that I believe may be causing the problem: https://bugs.adobe.com/jira/browse/FP-6198

I'd recommend having your student upgrade to the latest version of Flash regardless, which she can do here, but I think the best route is to go ahead and get your Articulate software upgraded. By installing the trial version, you can choose to only update your QM '09, if that's all you want.

And as far as verifying which version of Flash you're running, this link should tell you everything you need to know.

I hope this resolves your issues. Keep me updated...

Good luck!

So if I go to this Articulate page http://www.articulate.com/  I can just download and install the QuizMaker 09 trial product, instead of the Studio 09 trial product if I want to just update my stand-alone QM 09?

So after I download and install the newest QM 09, I will need to get it activated again, correct? And if so, how do I go about that?

Where there other things in this upgrade that would affect the quizzes I have already made?

BTW, thanks for all your help here.

Hey Larry, I'm happy to help. Once you've downloaded and ran the installer, any old versions you have will be automatically updated. You shouldn't have to worry about further activation, and keeping your QM '09 updated to the latest version will ensure your pre-existing quizzes remain optimized.

Hope everything works out!

Will this "fix" also repair another issue we are having - sometimes the Finished button does not take some of the students back to the LMS.

Hi John,

It's always a good idea to run the latest version of software, but if you continue to have problems, take a look here or here. There's also some useful information on the Quizmaker Support page here

And if you're still having an issue, try uploading a screencast of the problem scenario by using //www.screenr.com/

Let me know if that helps solve your problem. Good luck!

I have had the user upgrade her Flash player to 10.3 but the exams still to open, the spinning wheel preloader just spins and spins and the test never opens. She states that she can open the tests from an XP OS mahine at her work but it won't open on her Vista OS machine at home.

Any issues here with the Vista OS that might help me get this going for her?

I will check the advice you gave, however, on Larry Heibs post:

This is becoming more frequent, with now support calls coming in every day about this.  Vista seems to be the OS, and IE8.  It works fine on some peoples machines.

TIA
