Quizmaker 2 vs. Quizmaker '09

Mar 11, 2011

I use Articulate Studio '09 and I'm editing an older course with quizzes that were created with Quizmaker 2.  When I open Quizmaker ('09) it returns  a message that says "This quiz was created in Articulate Quizmaker2, Articulate Presenter '09 only supports editing Quizmaker '09 quizzes."  Is there a workaround for this other than reconstructing all the QM2 quizzes.   As an aside, I do not understand the limitation of '09 to edit files from a previous version such as QM2  and I'm hoping there is a workaround.

Hi Mike,

In order to update a Quizmaker 2 quiz that is in a presentation, you would need to do the following:

1. Open Quizmaker '09.

2. Click on the Articulate icon and select Open.

3. Browse for the AQM file for the quiz you originally created in Quizmaker 2.

4. Select it.

5. This should open the quiz in Quizmaker '09.

6. Save the quiz as a .QUIZ file.

7. Delete the slide placeholder for the original quiz.

8. Republish the quiz from Quizmaker '09 to Presenter '09.

Hi,

I have a similar problem. I just needed to make a few small edits to an older Presenter course that contained some quizzes created in Quizmaker 2. After making those changes, for some reason two of the quizzes stopped showing up. They just show up as blank in the published file. I never even touched them. When I try to reinsert those quizzes I cannot because we don't own quizmaker 09.

Are we expected to purchase Quizmaker 09 to be able to reinsert old quizmaker 2 quizzes?

Hi Brian,

I am working on converting English learning modules into Japanese.

Recently I have installed trial version of Articulate 09. When I open Quiz maker I get attached error.

I was using Presenter 5 and Quiz maker 2.3 before.

I am facing same problem with Engaqe as well.

When I try to insert the engage or quiz maker file it hangs up in the presenter.

After updating the old file in Presenter 09 when I try to open it it is giving me below error message.

I am working on Windows XP and Japanese fonts are installed in my computer.

Please advice.

Hi there Nisha,

First, please make sure that your project files are local and contain no special characters in the file names:

  • Work on your local drive (your C: drive). Working on a network drive or a USB drive can cause erratic behavior, including file corruption, loss of audio, and other unexpected behavior.
  • You should also make sure the directory path to your project files and your published output is less than 260 characters (for example C:\Articulate).
  • Avoid using special characters, accents or symbols in your file names (this includes spaces and underscores).

Additional information regarding "Naming Files, Paths, and Namespaces" in Windows operating systems can be found in the following Microsoft article.

What version of Office are you running? Have you upgraded that software, as well? You may want to make sure that you're running one of the supported versions of Office and that you're running a 32-bit installation of Office.

Click here for a list of Office versions that are supported with Studio '09.

Microsoft released a 32-bit and a 64-bit version of Office 2010. Microsoft recommends installing the 32-bit version, and Articulate Presenter '09 will only work with the 32-bit version. Presenter '09 also will not work with the Click To Run version of PowerPoint 2010. For more information, please review the following article:

Which version of Office 2010 should I install, 32-bit or 64-bit?

If you've confirmed you're working locally and that you're running a supported version of Office, please try creating a new presentation and possibly some quizzes or interactions. Do you experience the same problems or errors with the new files?

Thanks!

Christine

Hi Nisha,

Thanks for trying that out. Sorry to hear you're still receiving that error.

It might be best to go ahead and share your project files with us, so we can see what's going on.
