Quizmaker Crashes When Adding Sound

Feb 26, 2014

I swear, Articulate has to be the buggiest software package I have ever had the misfortune to use. Now Quizmaker has a new "symptom." When I want to add an audio file (.wav or .mp3) to question layers (correct answers, etc.), I can add one sound, maybe two. When I try to add a third sound clip, Quizmaker just goes "bye-bye." No warning. No message boxes. No sad faces. Just gone. Sometimes it does it on the second audio.

I have a short applause segment and a short buzzer that I use to provide audio reinforcement for correct and incorrect learning check responses. I do not have the time to add them one sound at a time, saving and restarting Quizmaker between each.

I have done all of the usual steps. I have uninstalled and reinstalled - I always install as admin. All file names are within proper length. All files are on the local hard disk. I stop all virus/firewall software before installing. I've reinstalled Articulate so often in the past 8 weeks I've become an expert.

I am running Studio '13 under Windows 8.1 with Office '13 (Office 365, actually).

Anyone else experience this and know the fix?

I'm having similar problems - was there a resolution? It's intermittent. You add a sound file for a question - ok. You add one for a correct answer - ok. You add one for an incorrect answer - CRASH! next time, the correct one crashes it. I think it's slightly better if you pause between actions: Add sound from file (pause) Open (pause) OK (pause) Add sound ...

I am having the same issue... The issue is working on different questions' feedback. I have found that you can add audio to the entire quiz (up to 10 different questions), but the feedback is what crashes is. What I have to do is insert the audio for the correct feedback, insert the audio for the incorrect feedback, then save and go back to the presentation. Then i can open up the presentation again and do the next question.

This is not at all a good way of doing it, but it is a work around for the time being... until articulate releases another update with more fixes... The sooner the better!!!!

Does anyone else know of another work around?

Hi Doug and welcome to E-Learning Heroes!

When creating, editing, and publishing Articulate Presenter '13 courses, be sure you're working on your local hard drive (typically your C: drive). Working on a network drive or a USB drive can cause erratic behavior, such as file corruption, an inability to save changes, and loss of resources.

If the solution above is not applicable or does not assist, please follow the troubleshooting steps in this article to fix unexpected or erratic behavior in Articulate Studio '13.
