Quizmaker numbering and sending to random slides.

Jun 14, 2011

I'm having a set of troubles with my Articulate Quizmaker. Two problems in particular.

My first problem is that I would really like to be able to see how many attempts a quiztaker has used to answer each question. If I for example give a student 4 tries, I want to see if they needed those 4 tries or if everybody got it right from try one. I've scoured the internet and E-Learning Heroes for a while and while I've seen many posts on how to give a student X amount of tries, I haven't seen anything on tracking how many tries were used.

Problem 2: How do I tell a slide to go to a random question?

Ex: I have a couple groups of questions, with say 5 questions in each and a random sampling of 2 questions from each group. If a student gets the first question right I immediately send them on to group 2, (this I know how to do) but when they get the first question wrong I want to send them to an informational slide (this I also know how to do) and from that informational slide I want to send the student to a random question in group 1. Emphasis on random. Since the first question was randomly taken I can't have the informational slide point to a specific question in group 1, this creates the risk of the same question being asked twice.

One solution I thought of was to embed the informational slide as a hidden slide in group 1, so that when the student gets a question wrong, goes to the informational slide, and then the program resumes as normal. The program would see that it needs 2 random questions from group 1, and that so far only 1 has been asked, (Or would Quizmaker count the hidden slide and thus already be at 2? In which case I could just set the random sampling to 3) and thus move on to another random question in group 1. The issue with this plan is that I don't know how to prevent quizmaker from picking the "hidden" informational slide as one of its random questions needed. Ex: student starts the quiz and first thing they face is the informational slide.

I would really like to be able to do these things, anybody have any thoughts?

Thanks

Hi Tom and welcome to Heroes! While Articulate will send the answer submissions to an LMS, the only one that is recorded is the one that counts for the quiz. So if you allow 4 attempts and a user takes 4 tries to get it, only the 4th try is recorded.

For your second question, I think your best option would be to not use blanks slides and branching for feedback but rely on the built in feedback for each question. Quizmaker allows you to randomize a group of questions so you can select, like 3 of 5 questions to ask, but you can't really do anymore direction beyond that. Also, each group is randomized individually. They aren't really connected in anyway.
