Quizmaker skipping some questions

Jul 25, 2012

I have a quiz that has 25 questions. The test is set to randomize all the questions except the first four. The first four are locked to the beginning of the test and each other. These are safety critical questions that the trainee must answer correctly, otherwise, they are branched to the end of the test. (So, if they get the first question wrong, that's all they are able to answer). This very welcome suggestion came from Jeanette.

The problem is that when it's published, some of the questions seem to be (randomly) skipped. It doesn't seem to be tied to a certain percentage right or wrong.

I have gone through and locked the last question of the 25 to the bottom of the test (as suggested in another post). Still no luck.

I'm wondering if I'm just trying to do too much at once (randomize, locking, branching). My next thought is that maybe I try using the Question Groups and create one group for the safety critical questions and the second group for the remaining 21 questions. Would that be an appropriate/better solution?

Hi Tammy! Yes, I would recommend splitting your first four critical questions into their own group. Branching and randomizing don't really mix, so that's likely why you're seeing some oddities. If the first 4 questions are in their own group (and not randomized), then I think you'll be able to achieve what you're looking for.

Thanks Jeanette! To the rescue again!

Before I left yesterday, I tried to publish one last time with the settings as described earlier. That time it seemed to work. However, knowing that I hadn't changed anything and that previous published attempts had random skipping, I thought it better to be safe. So this morning, after reading your response, I divided the questions into two groups, randomized the second group (and anchored the first and last question of the group). So far, so good.

Thanks again!
