Resuming an interrupted quiz

Jan 06, 2013

Hi,

We have some units that use the network throught VPN or from home.

The chance of having a long quiz inturrpted in concerning their managers.

Do we have any option of having the quiz resumed from where it was inturrupted - like we can resume from last slide we viewed?

Can this be done if the quiz in standalone, and not embedded in AP?

Is such an option available through StoryLine (we ordered 2 copies, and can also ask a vendor to re-create the quiz for us in SL).

Thanks!

Good morning Efrat!

If you'd like to have the quiz resume in a standalone quiz, you can certainly do so.

Take a look:

You can access this window by clicking on "Player Templates" in the "Quiz" section of the Quizmaker menu.

Storyline also has a resume feature. If you'd like to use that, instead, just let me know and I can show you where to find this information.

One thing to keep in mind:

If you set Quizmaker to resume on restart, be sure to upload your content before testing it. If you run the published quiz locally, it may not function properly.

Let me know if you have any questions!

Thanks,

Christine

Hi Christine,

Could you point me to the resuming a quiz options in SL?  I have a large quiz of 115 questions that is randomized in a quiz bank.  If I close it before finishing and resume, it seems that it is only scoring me based on what I answer after I resume.  I tested it and answered all correctly, closed, restarted and resumed, answered the rest correctly and then only had a 31%.

If you have any tips it would save me a lot of testing!  thanks!

Hi Roxanne!

First, it would probably help me out to first know how you're testing this. Are you running the course in an LMS? It may be an issue with the course, or it could be an issue with the LMS resume data.

The suspend_data element for a SCORM course tells the LMS where you left off when you exited the course.  It allows you to resume the course in the same place without having to start over.

It is not likely that you'll exceed the suspend data limits imposed by some SCORM learning management systems.  However, if you do, the following article will help you resolve it:

Articulate Support - Exceeding SCORM suspend data limits in Storyline

If you haven't already, can you try testing your course in SCORM Cloud to help us determine if the issue is Articulate related or if it's on your LMS's side?

If you can't replicate the issue in SCORM Cloud, it's probably an issue that you'd want to take to your LMS team.

Thanks!

Thanks, Christine.  I did test this in SCORM cloud and have the same problem.  It does not save the answers previously entered.

I have a quiz of 115 questions that require some thought, so I think people will want to take some of it, stop for a while and then come back and finish the quiz later.  Maybe we have to require that they complete in one sitting?

I have attached a scaled down version of the quiz file here in case you think there might be something I can change in how it is built.

thanks again!
