Review Quiz not recording the attempt on LMS

Oct 03, 2011

Hi - I am just developing some courses with a quiz attached to the last slide and during testing noticed that if I deliberately failed the quiz but reviewed it and then took the quiz again without exiting, my first attempt at the quiz did not register on my LMS or course testing platform.

To date, I don't think anyone registered onto my courses have noticed this as they usually log out and redo the quiz at a later date - it won't be long though before someone figures it out.

As I set the number of attempts to 4 maximum, this could be an issue for the reporting side of things.

My courses need to have the review function enabled so switching this off is not an option.  I don't think it is a problem with my LMS as I tested the course outside of my LMS and the same problem occurred.

Has anyone else noticed this (or tried it) and if so, any suggestions please on how to fix it?

Regards

Karen

Karen,

I'v been running Articulate courses on our hosted Moodle LMS for almost 2 years now.

As far as I know, SCORM javascript has a LMS timeout for execution, so it does depend on the authored scorm package and on the LMS way to "read" javascript code...

I can tell you I experienced the same issue you're experiencing...

To be sure that tracking and scoring is properly registered, I had to switch off the Review option and show a big Warning like "PRESS FINISH BUTTON TO STORE YOUR SCORE" in the final Pass Slide.

Unfortunately it seems Quizmaker doesn't store the score before showing the pass slide... at least this is what I experienced.

As far as I know, someone had submitted a feature request on this some time ago...

Yes, cool trick, Phil! It's good to switch the 4 attempts feature to the LMS to allow reviewing, too;

Karen, remember to explain this in the PASS result slide, and remeber, prior to publishing the Quiz to Presenter, to check "When running LMS, ignore Flash cookie" in the quiz Player template / Navigation Tab.

I

would also check the same option in the Powerpoint presentation Player Template / PLayer control tab. Otherwise Articulate won't allow you to perform the 4 attempts...

HI Guys

Following some "time off" from course design to work on other projects, I have explored the option of asking my LMS provider to switch the feature to allowing 4 attempts only in the LMS but have been told that this cannot be done.

I have extensively tested the courseware to see if I can work around it but it seems the only avenue I have left is that of switching off the review quiz function unless there is anything else anyone can suggest?

My clients love the review quiz function as do I but they need the courses to allow for more than 1 attempt at the quiz.....any other suggestions (other than switch LMS provider).....??

JHi Phil

Just wondering whether there is a more obvious solution to this issue I am having in relation to the review quiz feature being linked to the FINISH button....for example,

Would QM be able to build in a feature that still allowed the review quiz feature that was only accessed after clicking on the FINISH button - that way, all instances of the user's history of assessments would be recorded accurately?

So for example, if I attempted a quiz and failed it, the course/assessment would then be EXITED by clicking on finish and exit but then allowed the user to log back in and review their responses to previous courses/assessments....??

Happy to test if you guys fancy developing this as a feature...???
