We recently upgraded our LMS after 10 years and I have two SCORM 1.2 compliant courses that will show as complete in the LMS about 70 percent of the time. The other 30 percent requires my intervention as the administrator to complete the courses for the users. Originally, I the last activity was to complete the quiz at 80% with reporting and tracking set at passed/incomplete. I republished it using complete/incomplete with number of slides viewed to track progress and it still didn't fix the problem.
Needless to say, this has been frustrating for all of us!

If you are experiencing issues with content in your LMS, please refer to the following Word of Mouth Blog article, which outlines common issues pertaining to viewing and tracking content in an LMS:
If the issue persists, be sure to open a support case with your LMS provider, since they are your primary source of support for LMS tracking and reporting issues.
If I assign an AICC CBT developed in Articulate to 100 employees (in our LMS which is ComplianceWire), how come only about 5 will have an issue taking the course. We have cleared caches, checked IE versions... It is strange because the other 95 have no problem. The IS department here is telling us that the course is sending an 'I' (incomplete) to the LMS for those five people where the others have 'C' (complete) sent to the LMS. thanks - any help would be great

I, too, have a similar issue as Robert Kendall. I have courses published in Presenter '09 (SCORM 2004) and uploaded to my LMS (Prosperity by Ziiva). The majority of my students get through their courses just fine and they are marked as 'completed' by the LMS. However, a small percentage go through the courses and the status will not change to 'completed.'
My question is since this problem seems to be random, what's the best way to troubleshoot? It seems like running the course through a debugger doesn't make sense since we know it works fine most of the time. The only thing I can think to do is to capture the suspend_data file for those cases that don't mark as completed to be sure the student did actually complete the course (viewed all the slides). And if they did complete the course, but the LMS doesn't show as completed, now what? The LMS's response is always the same - "We just show what Articulate passed along to our system." Is there a better way to troubleshoot this problem when it is only happening randomly?
Any thoughts or feedback anyone has regarding this issue would be greatly appreciated.
The key to troubleshooting these issues is to find a machine that can reproduce the issue 100% of the time. Then you'll want to test that machine in a different environment like SCORM Cloud:
If you can reproduce the issue in SCORM Cloud, then that tells us that there's an issue with the content. If you can't reproduce the issue in SCORM Cloud, then that means there's an issue with your LMS.
I'm having issues with my SCORM course in SCORM Cloud. It won't go to a completed status even though I've viewed every slide. I've checked the links provided above and I'm following all the standards. What else could I be doing wrong for this to not get a Completion status in SCORM Cloud?
This has been driving me nuts for about two weeks now, so any advice is greatly appreciated.
No, I'm using the "Track using number of slides viewed." I do have a quiz in the course, but we don't want their grade to affect their completion of the course.
I haven't removed any slides, but I did update one Engage interaction. I was having issues with the audio on Monday (it wouldn't stay once I imported it...it would just disappear), so I have recently updated my version. After the update, my audio was importing and working as it should.
I'm attaching a screen shot of my LMS settings, just to see if I'm doing anything wrong here.
In the data folder of your published output, you should see a presentation.xml file. Right click it & choose Open With > Notepad. A few lines down, you should see the following:
"<completion>
<method>VIEW</method>
<threshold>6</threshold>
<target></target>
</completion>
</LmsProperties>
<lmscompletion>
<pass>passed</pass>
<fail>incomplete</fail>
</lmscompletion>"
In the threshold, do you see 38 or another number?
Let's try to reset that number. In your Reporting & Tracking options, change that number to 37. Then, republish your presentation. Open the presentation.xml file back up & verify that it now says 37. If it does, open your presentation back up, change it to 38, republish it, and then verify that the presentation.xml file now has the right number.
I'm honestly not sure how the 80 got in there. I've seen this happen in only a few courses and I've never been able to get enough information to determine the root cause. Glad to hear that it worked for you!
I think I'm having the same issue. My LMS is not marking Articulate lessons complete. Also, if complete an Articulate module and return to it later, it's as if I never even started the Module.
I checked the threshold and it said 80. I did what you suggested and republished. I checked again and the threshold still says 80.
Can you try setting your presentation to track complete after 1 slide & then publish it? After that, check your presentation.xml file to verify that it has changed to 1.
In the data folder of your published output, you should see a presentation.xml file. Right click it & choose Open With > Notepad. A few lines down, you should see the following:
"
VIEW
6
passed
incomplete
"

Brian, did you ask Kristin to change this to 37 because that's how many slides were in her presentation? I'm having a similar issue and am wondering if this could be a potential fix?
I'm having the same issue with a client that is using Prosperity... except I do have a quiz attached. The course works fine in the LMS, but it's not moving to transcript.
I'm having the same issue as Steven, Robert, and Judy above. Our SCORM courses are marking complete in our LMS about 95% of the time, but that 5% is driving me nuts. We have a series of 8 courses, and each week, we get at least one complaint that the system will not mark someone complete, but it's not consistently the same course. One user will have a problem with course 1, but be able to complete courses 2-8, while the next user will have a problem with course 2, but be able to complete course 1, and 3-8, and so on.
The users say they have been through all pages and all interactions upwards of three times, and the system still won't mark them complete. By the time they come to me, they are beyond frustrated. They also have the issue that when they go back in, the course asks them if they want to resume where they left off. They say Yes, but it takes them back to the beginning EVERY time. I don't know why, since the settings for all 8 courses are checked for "prompt to resume". Obviously, it's prompting them, but it's not recognizing where they were.
All courses are set to track completion based on # of slides viewed, and I had already adjusted them so they were set to about 80% of the slides in the course - I did this because we wanted to be sure that if someone accidentally skipped a page, or didn't click on one of the tabs in an engage interaction, they couldn't still be marked complete. I spot-checked the presentation.xml file on two of the courses, and the number of slides in the threshold code are accurate, so that is not the problem.
I guess I have two questions:
How can I troubleshoot the course completion error when it's only happening a small number of times, and I can't seem to replicate it myself?
Why isn't the system allowing people to resume where they left off? Is there another setting that needs to be checked, or is this a function of the LMS (Cornerstone OnDemand)?
It really sounds like it may be system-specific from the information you shared. Your users are accessing the courses from different machines, correct?
Since you're unable to reproduce this on your end, the only thing I can suggest at this point is to try and find a common thread. Are the users that experience these issues running the same web browser, etc.?
If the course is set to resume, it should always resume, unless there's some type of resume limitation on the LMS - which is usually pretty rare.
If you'd like, you are welcome to share your project details with our support team. We'd be happy to take a look and see if we can share some suggestions for improving the functionality of the course.

If the issue persists, be sure to open a support case with your LMS provider, since they are your primary source of support for LMS tracking and reporting issues.
Thanks, Brian. I am working with our LMS vendor and the ultimate solution might be to shelve the SCORM version for now and test an AICC version.
I appreciate your quick and thorough answer that gave me additional tools that I will absolutely use again!

Hi Kristen & welcome to Heroes,
Is your course set to be tracked by the result of a quiz in your presentation? Also, have you recently removed slides from your presentation?

OK. I'll try right now. Thanks BRIAN!
