Submit button and Quizmaker oddness
Nov 16, 2011
I am working on a Quizmaker project using multiple-choice questions.
- The quiz consists of four questions with three or four possible answers per question.
- The feedback is per answer and the scoring is per answer.
- Each of the questions are preceded by an intro slide.
- Feedback is provided by blank slides branched from the selected answers rather than the quizmaker-generated feedback.
- Pass and fail results slides are shown at the end of the quiz.
I have triple-checked the branching between the quiz answers and feedback slides and am still having several problems:
- The SUBMIT button requires clicking 2 times to get it to work.
- Some questions will not accept the SUBMIT button at all, except when the correct answer is selected.
- The branching is not working properly and some questions actually repeat. (this is what originally made me think the branching was not done right, but after the third check I am certain that it is.) When a question repeats, the answer last selected is "grayed out" and no other answers are selectable.
Any thoughts on what might be causing this and how I can fix it?
(the map of the structure - fairly simple branching - is below.)

Hey Kathleen,
Would you like to submit your Quizmaker files and submit a case for our support team to review? You can do that here:
http://upload.articulate.com/
Be sure to include the url for this thread when submitting your case so they can see your original post and diagram. And if you'd like, you can leave your case number here so that I can follow it personally. Thanks!
Thanks! I've uploaded these files.
One other thing I've noticed is that for the first time, what I'll call "process windows" (the black boxes that show up sometime with executables) are showing up at intermittent intervals while I'm working on these files. When I hit SAVE, for example. Have never noticed this (or it hasn't happened) before.
Thanks for the additional info, Kathleen. One of our awesome support engineers will be in touch with you shortly.
Hi again Peter, Thanks so much. The case is #00254176.
In case anyone runs into the issue, here's what we did to resolve it:
We were able to narrow down why the “Submit” button will not work the first time. This is due to the number of “Attempts” you set to each multiple choice question. For instance, on Scenario 1 question 1, the Attempts is set to “Unlimited”. This means the user will not be able to advance to the next slide, or branch to the appropriate slide until the user selects the correct answer. Please see:
http://www.articulate.com/support/quizmaker09/?p=93
To workaround this, you can do either of the following:
1. Set the Attempts to 1 for all questions, or...
2. Provide a feedback, at least for incorrect choices to something like “Try again” so user knows he needs to pick another choice.
Also, we noticed Slide or Question 14 is blank. Please complete this slide before republishing and testing the quiz.
I am having problems with the Submit button. It functions fine in "preview" in Storyline, but when I upload it to the LMS, the submit button action doesn't occur. In other words, it doesn't trigger the action that is programmed into the slide. It can be clicked many times and doesn't react. Can you please help me quickly? I'm under a tight deadline to get this out today!
Actually, I just went back to double check and the "submit" button is not advancing in Storyline either. I feel like this is a simple fix, but have checked all the settings and triggers and can't find the culprit. any help would be really appreciated!
Hey Leslie!
Are you able to attach your .story file here so we can take a look? Or, if you'd rather, you can send it to us confidentially via the second page of this link. Thanks!
Hi,
I am having a problem with the submit button in the final quiz of my storyline course.
The quiz set up with a question pool. The pool has 50 questions and 25 are drawn randomly each time. I use SABA LMS 5.4 but we are in the process of upgrading to 6.0.
The first time I take the quizk, it works fine. I can review it and retake it using the "Retry Quiz" with no problem. The problem occurs when I fail the quiz, leave it, go to the main menu of the course and then come back to retake the quiz. I tried exiting the course and coming back and starting when I left off and the problem persists.
I have triggers to reset the results slide upon leaving the quiz and the question slide settings to reset the slide to initial state when revisiting but the problem persists.
Would anybody have any suggestions? I cannot think of what else to do.
Thank you very much
Roger
Hey Roger!
Would you mind testing your course in SCORM Cloud to help us determine if the issue is Articulate-related or if it's on your LMS's side? If it appears in SCORM Cloud as well, we'd be happy to take a closer look at what might be going on. If you can't replicate the issue in SCORM Cloud, it's probably an issue that you'd want to take to your LMS team.
The articles here and here may also help clear up common LMS issues.
Eager to hear if you can replicate the behavior...
Thanks!
Thank you Peter.
The thought of testing in SCORM cloud has crossed my mind.
I will do it and read these posts and let you know.
This is very much appreciated.
I've got a similar issue with Quizzmaker '13. I am forced to press the submit button multiple times to advance to the next slide. Attempts are set to 1. I don't think it is appropriate to provide feedback for every survey question. Is there a fix for this in Quizmaker 13?
I just tested a few different scenarios. I set my module to Free navigation and I did not see the issue with the submit button needing multiple clicks to forward. I switched the navigation back to restricted and the issue returned. I will reboot and attempt to rebuild again.
Hi Julee,
This sounds like normal behavior in that if the menu is set to restricted or locked, the slide won't advance until the timeline has completed. Survey questions don't have to be graded or have feedback - so you could remove those elements.
Thanks Ashley,
The problem that I'm seeing is that when the navigation is locked, I must click submit multiple times per question in the survey.
Would you agree that wether the navigation is free or locked, and I'm answering a survey question (Quizmaker '13), I should only have to press the submit button once per question? Why should I have to press the submit button 2 or 3 times when the navigation is locked in a survey?
I mentioned feedback and attempts because that is apart of the fix listed by Brian. For the record the only problem that I'm seeing from the original issue is "The SUBMIT button requires clicking 2 times to get it to work." Sometimes I need to click it 3 times.
Is there anything else I can try?
Hi Julee,
You should only have to click it once, but what I suspect is happening is when the timeline of your quiz question hasn't finished and you have restricted navigation, it's not actually being "clicked" or submitted. You could change the overall length of the timeline that would likely stop it from having to be clicked more than once and still allow you to have restricted navigation - although if you have any audio or media files on your quiz slides, those will extend the timeline.
Thanks Ashley, that was the problem, we weren't waiting 5 seconds for the timeline to complete.
Thanks for the update Julee and glad you were able to figure it out.
Hello! Can someone help me? I am working on quiz maker and need to change (edit) result page and submit button.
I am making a course in Russian language ans the result page and submit button should be edited and changed from English to Russian. How can I do it?
Thank you!
Hi Nargiza,
You can translate player buttons and text labels as described here using the player text labels. If you need to translate the slide content such as questions and answers, that is author controlled information and you'll need to conduct that translation.
Hello,
I am having trouble getting the submit button to show up. In quizmaker when I preview it is there and functions, but in my presenter 360 file the preview does not show the submit button at all so the presentations hangs (as there is no response read in by the user).
How can I fix this?
Thank you
Hi there Kate!
Thanks for sharing those details with me. Would you mind also sending your Articulate Package so I can take a closer look?
