You can modify the theme colors using the suggestion I provided in that other thread, and you can modify the transparency of the player elements in Engage up to 100% if you want the PowerPoint slide to show through.
Now, the benefit of this, is that it will show the color of the presentation through the interaction. However, it will not show an image like Quizmaker - Quizmaker allows you to specify a page background image, which does make it quite a bit easier to match the PowerPoint background you're using.

For Quizmaker, I could easily solve it by using the same background image as the one in my powerpointslide (put it in the masterslide of Quizmaker).
For Engage '13, I don't see how I can make sure the engage interaction has the same look and feel as my other powerpoint-slides.
