Clarification please - Screeners

Apr 21, 2014

Can you please assist me, as I am sure I am overlooking something.  I feel as though I am in an odd loop of disconnect between the Storyline and Replay products.

These are my current understandings, and I want to make sure that I am correct please.

  1. If I create a screener in Storyline, it only exist in that storyline file.  I do not have the ability to export as video or to use in any other story.
  2. If I create a screener in Replay, I can publish/export as video. However, I cannot import the screener into storyline to modify/edit/add interactivity (Does not recognize .replay files).  I can only export the file as .mp4 and import as a video into storyline.

The desired scenario:

  • I need to be able to record screeners that sometimes I will play as a single video and sometimes I will insert as step by step slides.
  • I need the abilty/flexibility to export these storyline screeners to an .mp4.

Looking forward to your response.

Kindest Regards,

Hi Liz!

Actually, you can save the recording as a video. Jeff created a screener on the process. Here's the video:

You can import the MP4, but not the .REPLAY file into Storyline. However, it's inserted as a single video. You can, however, add interactivity by placing objects at keypoints on the timeline. You could even trigger a pause by using shapes and triggers - but this really depends on what you want to add and where you want to add it.

I hope this helps! :)
