Is there a way to edit the audio / video for a Replay recording? My "demos" are going to end up being 3 to 4 minutes long, and rarely do I get through an entire demo without a few "ummm's" or "aahhhs" or my dachshund barking when he sees a squirrel. Is there a way to trim those sections out?
Skimming the discussion I didn't see this mentioned, so I apologize if I'm repeating someone else.
The first thing I've done to edit out unexpected sounds, pop ups on the screen, or mis-speaks, is to stop the recording immediately and then pick up where I left off. If there's a natural pause soon before, I might start over there. Then I can easily trim off the end of the previous recording to get them to match up.
Here's another workaround that's worked to cut out or adjust the volume on one particular section of a recording:
1. Make all other edits on the project first (trim sections mentioned above, add lower thirds, adjust the A/B track, etc)
2. Publish the video
3. Open a new Replay project and insert the video I just published.
4. Pause at the exact spot before I want to make the edit; trim off the rest of the video.
5. Insert the video again and pause at the end of the section I want to cut out or that needs the volume adjusted. Then either trim off the start (to cut the section) or the end (to adjust the volume of that section with the manual setting)
6. If necessary, insert the video again and repeat for the rest as needed until you have all pieces fitting together and playing as desired.
This method obviously isn't ideal to remove all minor mishaps, but for adjustments that would cause me to re-record, I've found this much quicker in most cases. Also, I should mention that I haven't used the webcam yet, so that may add a layer that makes these tips not work as well. Hope this makes sense and helps someone!
Any update on whether there are ways to edit audio on a video file? I created videos in Storyline and can't edit the audio and it is extremely frustrating that I can't. I've even tried recording the screen in Replay, but there aren't audio editing tool there either.
The editing options within Storyline or Replay are limited, but you can see the options for editing sound or audio files here. You would not be able to separate that from a video file though.
Without the snip feature to cut video, Replay is pretty much useless. I want to be able to take recorded webinars (MP4 files) and clean them up, insert graphics in between and fix audio and video issue. I'm at a loss as to what Replay is good for?
Done. And sorry, that wasn't meant to be harsh, but it probably reads that way. I love the Articulate products, just disappointed by the free add-on when we upgraded. Not sure what it does that Storyline can't do better.
No worries or apologies necessary Ron. I can certainly understand the frustration. I think Replay is just a different tool, and I personally like how you can do the video within video and switch between the two pretty seamlessly - but it's not for everyone. :-)
Well, if my name was Ron, sure, but it's not. LOL. I'll have to watch it someday. And since you're monitoring so closely (thanks, great customer service), is MP4 the only Replay output? I have an older version of Camtasia that only takes MP3.
I use Premiere for editing the videos after the fact, just using replay to do the initial capture. This works great for me but I have faculty members who I support that need a free video editing solution. I'm looking around for open source options if anyone has any ideas.
This thread is a bit older so I'm not certain that folks are subscribed to respond here, but you may also want to search through the Building Better Courses side of the forums, as it tends to focus more on discussions related to design, how to, or other ideas and software needs.
Best of luck with figuring out something that'll work for your team!
This thread is over two years old? Is this item in the works? I am just new to Storyline 2 but find this to be a big issue! It is almost impossible to create a video that doesn't require some type of editing. I can't record in Storyline and save as a video and I can't edit in Replay.....very frustrating. I would like to make the timeline on one slide longer and delete another one...please, please make this an update....

Hi Melissa,

Very disappointing. Any idea on when basic audio editing within a video file will be available for Storyline?
Hey Melissa! You are welcome to submit that as a feature request if this is something that you would like our development team to consider.
I agree!

Sigh. Parks and Recreation has truly wrecked my name recognition.... I'm sure I'll find a use for it. Have a great weekend.
Or made it better! One of my favorite shows. :-)

Haven't even watched it?! You're not really living till you do... :-)
Only MP4 right now. I've heard of folks in the forums talk about converting MP4 to MP3s...but that's outside my wheelhouse!

And how do I add this as a feature request?
Hi Lindy!
You are welcome to share your thoughts with our product development team here.
You mention not being able to record in Storyline?
You can export screencasts as MP4 videos, or you can save individual frames as PNG images. See this tutorial for details.
