Inserting images
Nov 24, 2013
Is there a plan to insert images "at the playhead?" Currently (and if I'm missing something, please DO say so!) they're added at the end of the timeline. Then, the timeline has to be manually extended, and finally the images need to be dragged to the correct spot.
It'd be nice if they could be inserted and push the other content forward? I can submit as a feature request, but want to be certain I'm not missing anything.

Hi Becky,
When inserting an image it'll always be added to the end of track A, and then you should be able to move the images within the two tracks.
Hi Rebecca, I know very annoying... especially when you've setup all your mix varations and need to move the timeline (and the mix doesn't move along). Please let this be a future update! PLEASE!
Jeff,
If you didn't already, please submit it as a feature request.
Hi Ashley and Jeff,
Sorry for delayed response...still catching up post-Thanksgiving!
Ashley, tx, I do know that objects can be moved, but like Jeff I find it annoying, and cumbersome. I've just now submitted a feature request. Hope you did, too, Jeff! Thanks for weighing in.
Hi Becky,
I totally understand, and I'm glad you were able to submit a feature request about it.
Ashley:
So the image can only live at the end of the track? Can't I move it into the middle of a track somewhere?
TRY as I might the image I insert that is at the end of track A is QUITE STUBBORN and refuses to move anywhere other than to the end of track B. So, after moving it back and forth the to END of either track, I have given up.
Hi Joel,
To move the image to an earlier part of the track you'll need to move the video to make space for it. So for example, if I have two video clips on track A, and I want to add an image between them I can insert the image first and it'll appear at the end of track A. I'll then need to drag the second video to the right to make space, drag the image into that space and then I can manipulate the the image and the video to allow for the transition between them.
So then here's my question, I did an audio/video recording with no background. Can I insert pictures within the A track as it goes through the audio/video timeline? I've noticed I can only add it at the end or at the beginning both which won't work. Is there a way around this or?
Hi John,
What track is the audio/video on? You won't be able to insert the images behind it or inbetween elements unless there is already a break within the track. You'd have to insert them into track B if you wanted them to appear at the same time using the track within the track set up.
Hi Ashley,
So here's what I did.
I recorded audio/video through my built in cam on my laptop. I then intended to use track B to add images as needed. So for example: " So let me explain the ADDIE model starting with "A" analyze" So once I said that I wanted to add an image on track B. *which i've noticed both track A and B were taken up by the audio/video that I did. But was unable to unless I added it in the front or in the end or as you mentioned added a "break".
I looked online and I saw that the only potential work around is to use powerpoint to create an interactive presentation and then use that function that allows me to move the slides forward off screen as I speak to each slide. Unless you have a different suggestion.
I suppose I should request that they add this feature of "splicing" images in because it would be an invaluable tool especially if someone else has to create said podcast/screencast as opposed to yourself.

Hi John,
Did you record them separately or together? As you'll see below, this web cam video has the audio and video showing as a part of the same track:
If you recorded them separately they would exist on separate tracks, and then there isn't a way to splice in the image elements into the track as well. Definitely share your thoughts in the form of a feature request!
Hi Ashley,
I did it separately. I think the ability to splice is a very necessary feature. For example you can have one person record video via a camera, webcam, whatever, submit it over to you and then you can use replay to add a lower third, to add additional images, video, even maybe a simulation or sample of a course done via storyline.
I think the only way around it is going to be for me to create this course with pp running the background.
Thank you,

Thanks John - if the recorded audio/video were in the same file, you could then have images on the second track. So again, it sounds like it's working as intended based on what you have set up and otherwise it would need to be a feature request.
Quick question Ashley,
If I want to transfer storyline from one pc to another, what do I need to do? I have an old laptop I no longer want to use so I want to transfer storyline and the code to a new one, what are the steps?
Thanks,

Hi John,
You'll want to follow the steps here for transferring from one computer to another.
Just make sure you have the serial number so that you can activate again on the new computer. It's listed in your current Storyline set up if you look at the Help-> About Articulate Storyline and you'll see it listed there.
Thanks Ashley [😊]
