Hi guys! I wondering if I could get some recommendations on good mics to use in my recordings. I already know which webcam I want, but I don't want to use the built-in mic. I want the best quality sound I can get, so I want a mic close to my mouth. Are lapel mics expensive? Our budget is pretty small. What do you all do about your sound?
I also use a Snowball mic. Sounds like same set up as below. I use WavePad for recording. It gives more flexibility for editing than Audacity, although for mixing music, I like Audacity. WavePad is a minimal investment. Around $50.
I use a Samson Meteor mic (about $100) and NCH's MixPad program for mixing tracks. It's not free, but it is very robustly featured. I also use NCH's WavePad to record and edit individual tracks. It also is not free but very deep in features and effects. I also use a pop filter.

Just thought of something else...do any of you mix your sound? If so, what software do you use?
Awesome. Thank you!
Audicity - free and very good.
I use the SnowBall - Blue w/tripod and a pop filter. Made a huge difference in voice recordings. Not very expensive for the sound quality.

Thank you, PJ. I've been looking at the SnowBall. It's at the top of my list so far.
I've just downloaded Audacity, so thank you both for the tip!
For speaking, remember that around 4-6 inches is the correct distance from mouth to microphone, then adjust your levels etc. accordingly.
