Random Crash

Oct 17, 2013

Hi All,

I'm just getting to grips with Replay and using it to sync an audio file with a screen recording. However, when I try and publish - it crashes.

Has anyone else experienced this/ is there anything I could be doing to provoke this kind of reaction.

Thanks in advance

Hi Harri,

The first thing I'd suggest is, if you're experiencing unexpected behavior in Articulate Replay, do the following:

  1. Make sure your project files are located on your local hard drive (typically your C: drive). Working on a network drive or a USB drive can cause erratic behavior.
  2. If it's still performing erratically on your local hard drive, repair Replay.
  3. If the issue persists after repairing Replay, follow the steps here for your version of Microsoft Windows to uninstall/reinstall Replay and repair its supporting software.

You'll also want to confirm that your system requirements match those outlined here for Replay.

If you're still having difficulty after review those guidelines, are you able to share your Replay file with us?

I am having a similar problem.  I started using Replay yesterday.  It worked great for my first try, but today I am creating a second presentation and it keeps crashing when I try to publish.  Everything is fine when I am creating the Replay file, and I can play it in Replay just fine.  The presentation ends up being 41 slides with 27 minutes of audio.  I had .jpg files which I imported as the images, and I had .mp3 files which I imported for the audio.

When I click Publish, it cranks away for about 7 minutes, then I get a pop up box at about 97% that says "Replay has stopped working, notifying Microsoft".  There is no error number.  The file I am working with today is larger than the one I was working with yesterday.  Is there a size limitation for Replay?

I followed the instructions to repair Replay, which did not help, I got the same result.  Then I followed the instructions to uninstall, reinstall/repair, and check the .NET version.  the .NET option box was colored in, but when I expanded it, there were two options, neither of which was checked.  Should one be?  (There is another app on my laptop that requires .NET.)  After I did all this, I still get the same error when publishing.

I would be glad to provide my Replay file if you would tell me who and where to send it to.  I like this tool, and would like to continue using it, but obviously only if it's going to actually publish the .mp4 file for me!  We use Articulate Online, which works great for people who have good internet connectivity, but I needed a way to provide the same content to people in parts of the world where their internet connectivity is too poor to use the Online version.  I really wish I could take what I have already built in Studio and publish it as .mp4 but I don't see that as an option.  I hate to have to do something twice.

Thanks for any advice.

Hi Deborah,

Thanks for sharing what troubleshooting steps you've already gone through. If you'd like us to take a look at your file, please send it along to our Support team here.  If you don't want to rewrite everything you shared here, there'll be a place to share a link to this forum thread - or of course, copy/paste.

I'm having this same problem with Replay crashing when publishing and have tried all the typical repair/reboot steps.

I can publish some .mov and .mp4 files, but not others.  Sent a Support ticket with the Replay file.  At this point I'd be satisfied with the published file and forego a reason WHY it doesn't work since I'm need to have this available by Saturday. Thanks!
