Small sections extracted from large mp4 file same size as original

Jan 07, 2019

I have a large mp4 file (414,523 KB) and have been tasked to break it up into smaller, more manageable pieces. I have started this process but all of the extracted pieces are basically the same size as the original file. I'm loading the original mp4 into Replay, cutting out the parts I don't need, and using "Save as" to save the small sections under new names. I've done 3 sections so far and they are all still over 414 MB. I tried searching for solutions, but could not find this issue. Thanks!

Hey Gail,

Thank you for reaching out to us and letting us know what you are experiencing with your file.

A file might not immediately shrink in size when you delete or edit a video. They are kept temporarily in case you need to click Undo to restore anything.

The good news is your project file will eventually shrink, usually after saving it a coupleĀ of times. You can usually get it to shrink right away by saving and closing the project file, then re-opening it and saving it again.

I hope that helps :)

Is this still the only "fix" for this issue?  I have tried this several times and the file size is still huge for me.

I had a large file, did save as, deleted segments to create my sections, then published.  The published file size is fine (most only 5,000 kb). I have to uploaded the Replay master files into SharePoint but it fails. In looking at my files each of my Replay files is still 1,067,897 kb regardless of what is in the Replay file. I keep opening and saving but there is no change.  zipping the file doesn't seem to decrease the size either.

Hi Rachel,

Thank you for reaching out! Let's see if we can get to the bottom of this!

A couple of questions for you about this:

  • What is the error message that appears when uploading the file to Sharepoint?
  • What are the publishing settings when publishing from Replay 360?

Please keep us posted!

Sorry I didn't see this post.  When trying to upload to SharePoint it usually gets to 99% and then says it will take over a day to finish, so I cancel.  Sometimes if I make the file name really short I can get it to upload, sometimes if I drag vs browse I can get it to work.

I am not sure what you mean by settings since there aren't really any choices, just a video file.  Mix A is a desktop recording and Mix B is my audio mp3.
