2 Questions: one on Engage and second on Animations not updating

Apr 15, 2013

I've update my Engage interaction in Storyline. For some reason the update is not appearing after I've saved the file. I've saved and closed the whole Storyline file and it still doesn't show the updated Engage file. Can someone help me get this fixed?

Also, sometimes when I make animation edits in the timeline, Storyline continues to play the animation as it was before the change. I had to delete the animation object and reinsert it to get it to play correctly. Is there something that I'm doing wrong. I don't what to have to recreate animations to make a change.

Hi Phyllis,

Sounds like both issues may be related to the Storyline file. First, please make sure you're only working with local project files.

  • Work on your local drive (your C: drive). Working on a network drive or a USB drive can cause erratic behavior, including file corruption, loss of audio, and other unexpected behavior.
  • You should also make sure the directory path to your project files and your published output is less than 260 characters (for example C:\Articulate).
  • Avoid using special characters, accents or symbols in your file names.

Additional information regarding "Naming Files, Paths, and Namespaces" in Windows operating systems can be found in the following Microsoft article.

For the Engage interaction, how are you viewing the course when it doesn't show up? If you're trying to test this after publishing, try to upload the course to a web server or LMS for testing. Viewing the course locally may cause issues when trying to view different types of interactions. More information can be found here

If you're still unable to get this working, please try importing the slides from the original course into a new, blank, Storyline file. To learn more about importing from one course to another, please take a look at this article

I hope this helps! Let me know how it goes.

Thanks,

Christine

Hi Phyllis,

You may want to try a quick repair to see if that helps, and be sure to follow these general rules:

1.  Work on your local drive (your C: drive). Working on a network drive or a USB drive can cause erratic behavior, including file corruption, loss of audio, and other unexpected behavior.

2. You should also make sure the directory path to your project files and your published output is less than 260 characters (for example C:\Articulate).

3.  Avoid using special characters, accents or symbols in your file names.

And if you'd like, we'd be happy to take a closer look at it. Can you please go ahead and open a ticket with our support team, including the .story file, so they can take a closer look at what's going on?

Thanks!

Thanks for your responses Christine and Peter. I am working on my local drive. The problem I'm having with syncing voice and animations is occurring when I make adjustments in the timeline. This in the development phase before I publish. I'm just trying to adjust to tighten the animation to sync with the voice. When I replay the animation, it is not playing out the updated sync. In some cases, when I save the file that seems to update the sync but in other cases saving makes no difference.

The Engage file never did update. I will re-import the updated Engage into the story file.

It's becoming very frustrating not to be able to easily adjust the animation/voice syncing. I'm going to open a trouble ticket so hopefully you can tell me what I'm doing wrong.

Also, do you have a tip on how to easily add a couple of seconds on to the end of each animation without having to click on each object in the timeline that appears at the end of the slide to extend the time. When I highlight all object to stretch it out, sometimes the opposite end moves as well and then I've lost the sync that occurs earlier in the slide. I don't want the slide to go blank while the time extends.

Thanks

HI there Phyllis,

So sorry for the frustration. Were you able to submit a case? I'm afraid I haven't been able to find it, if so. Are you able to share the case number with us, so we can take a look?

Also, if you're adjusting the time for an object, make sure you're selecting the very edge of it to adjust its time in the timeline. If you click in the middle of the object and drag it, it will move the object to where you place it, but the same time will be assigned to it. In other words, the time isn't adjusting, the object is simply moving in the timeline.

If you want to make sure that object shows until the very end, you can try right-clicking on it in the timeline and selecting "Show Until End".

Thanks!

Christine
