2nd Layer Not Firing from Trigger

Aug 04, 2012

Hi there,

My first time joining the community...

Here's the situation:

  1. On my base slide, I have a character which appears on the timeline at 0.25 sec & then disappears at 1sec.
  2. A trigger then shows the "Welcome" layer "when the timeline starts." On this layer, a character, caption & narration play from 1sec-7.4 sec. This layer triggers just fine.
  3. The next layer, "Im Linda," will not fire no matter what I try. Like the previous layer, the trigger is set "when the timeline starts." On this layer, a character, caption & narration play from 7.4-14 sec.

I have attached the file. I have spent a few hours trying to solve the problem...Any help would be greatly appreciated

Kandi,

Right now you have both triggers set to fire when the slide's timeline begins.  So in essence, you're telling Storyline to fire both layers at the same time.  If your goal is to have one layer play through, and then the next after that layer is done, then you'd want to add your fire Linda layer trigger on the Welcome layer.

I've attached your file with the change.  Sorry, I think I may have moved the timeline pieces of each layer around a bit!

Hi Mike,

Thanks so much for pointing out that I needed to move the 2nd trigger to the Welcome layer. I added the trigger "Show layer Im Linda" "When the timeline ends." It worked!!

I see you accomplished the same result by showing the "Im Linda" layer when the "media completes" (in this case, narration). That opens up some new options for creating future triggers

Hey Emma,

I'll jump in here and answer your question. Yes, that's correct - you cannot fire two layers at the same time.

If you think through the idea of layers, they are essentially a 'slide on top of the base slide' with pretty much the ability to do all the same things you can do on the base slide/layer. By showing two layers at the same time they conflict with each other - which one comes first?

Hope that helps.
