5-Video Multiple Choice Question

Oct 22, 2012

Hi all!

I need help, please!  I am trying to create a multiple choice quiz for ASL speakers.  The question will be a video and there will be 4 possible answers which will also be videos.  Also, it has to be possible to play all 5 videos at the same time.

I know that there is a way to do this with Articulate Quizmaker, however my problem is the space limitation.  The size of the 5 videos is too small when put all together in one slide.  Is there a plausible way to do this with Storyline?

I was thinking that having the question video on the “menu” on the left side can free up some space for the 4 answer videos to be placed on the actual slide.  Is this possible?  Any other ideas that can solve my problem?

Thanks!

Hi Alejandra,

Do you mean that you want the learners to be able to launch all of your videos from the same slide? Or that they all need to be playing simultaneously? If it's the former, see if this would work for you:  Video Quiz

It involves placing the videos in lightboxes. Does that fit your needs? Here is the Storyline source file in case you'd like to take a look.

Hi Jeanette!

Thanks for responding!  I cannot access the 2nd option because I currently do not have Storyline.  In fact, I'm trying to find out what Storyline offers in terms of video quizzes (having 5 videos in the same slide).  And if Storyline meets my needs for my next project, my department will definitely purchase it.

Is there a way to look at this Storyline file without having the program? Can you make it available in a different format?

Thanks in advance!

Hi Alejandra - I really only included one example in the post above ... the  Video Quiz link opens the example in its published format, so that you can see what it would look like to your learners, and the other link is just the Storyline source file that I used to create the example. Does the published example look like something that would work for you? If not, can you say a little more about your requirements? You can definitely have multiple videos on the same slide, and if you have space concerns, you can even change the dimensions of your course to accommodate your videos if you want. Maybe you could attach a screenshot or mockup of what you are wanting to build, so that we can get a better idea of what you'd like to design.

Sorry!  I got confused because it looks so similar to Articulate, so I couldn't tell them apart.

I'm attaching a quiz I made with Articulate Quizmaker, so that you can get an idea of what I need to do.  So I need 5 videos in the same slide and my main concern is the space limitation.  The videos would be too small to be played simultaneously.  Do you think that this is even plausible considering the amount of space of the window?

You mentioned the possibility of changing the dimensions of my course.  Do you think this would solve my problem and, if so, how do I do this?  Does this mean I can change the Articulate Quizmaker/Presenter window dimensions and make them bigger when published and viewed in an LMS?

Thanks so much!

Hey Alejandra,

Do you actually need the videos to play simultaneously, or do you just need learners to be able to launch the videos all from the same slide? Did the idea I posted earlier look like it could work for your situation? In that example, the thumbnails of the videos are small, but when the learner clicks, the video launches in a lightbox so they can better view the movie. That way you don't have to play the video in a tiny space on the slide itself.

Regarding changing the size of the course - this is only something you can do in Storyline (not Quizmaker). Here's a tutorial that explains more. If you choose a size that's larger than the default of 720x540, this increases the dimensions of the published output, which might allow you to better fit all 5 of your videos on one slide.

Good morning Jeanette!

Thanks for your patience and all your help.  The possibility of having all 5 videos playing simultaneously in the same slide is just an option I was exploring.  I definitely like what Storyline offers in terms of video quizzes.

It's pretty cool that Storyline lets you increase the dimensions of the course, but I'm not sure if this increased space will be sufficient to fit all 5 videos in the same slide.  I'm starting to think that I'm better off just sticking to the option of just launching the videos from the same slide (and not having them play simultaneously).

I'll continue to explore Storyline.  I guess I'm still trying to figure out how much different is Storyline from Articulate.  Any good articles where they compare Articulate and Storyline?

Thanks so much!!

Alejandra, the biggest difference between Articulate Studio and Articulate Storyline is that Storyline is completely standalone—it's a one-stop shop for building course content, quizzes, screen recordings, simulations, interactions... pretty much anything you can imagine building into your course. And although it feels simple & familiar because of its ribbon-style user interface, it offers a lot more features for building richer interactivity (such as triggers, slide layers, states, and variables) .

The Articulate Studio suite, on the other hand,  is comprised of 3 tools (Presenter, Quizmaker, and Engage), and course-authoring is done primarily in PowerPoint. Many people who stick with Articulate Studio do so because they prefer the PowerPoint environment and because they don't need greater capabilities for interactivity.

Here's a page that sums up a lot of the major differences.

Hi Angela!

I'm not sure I'm following what may be happening as it appears your image did not come through. If you are replying via e-mail, attachments do not come through, but your signature is attached here. You may wish to pop in and edit that.

I simply re-shared the original file you were asking about here, and you are correct, it is a .story file which has the format used in the example above.

If you are unable to open the .story file from your browser and you are getting text in your browser, please try to utilize in a different browser or do a right-click save link as to open properly.
