Flash Player 16 Issue
Dec 09, 2014
By
Brian Gil
Hi Everyone,
Adobe released Adobe Flash Player 16 on December 9, 2014 and, as a result, Articulate Storyline won’t open. Published content isn’t impacted.
We’re working fast and furiously to fix the issue and will release updates for Storyline 1 and Storyline 2 as soon as humanly possible.
Stay tuned,
Brian Gil
Head of Product Operations
*UPDATE* The issue has been resolved for Storyline 2 and Storyline 1. Please upgrade to the latest version of Storyline 2 or Storyline 1 as appropriate. Updates for other products are in progress.

Thanks Michelle - I'm sure our support team will be able to get you back on track.
I have tried everything to fix this. I am using Windows 7, uninstalled both Storyline and Flash and then reinstalled the Storyline update 8 and the Flash 16. Still getting message that I don't have Flash .ocx. Please help. Thanks!
Hi Brian,
If you've already gone through the update and all the repair steps outline here, please connect with our Support engineers.
I use both Storyline 1 and 2. I updated to Flash 16 and Storyline 2 is working fine, however when I opened Storyline 1 today it gave me the error message that "Flash 10 or higher is required to run Articulate Storyline" I even tried downloading Flash again and it still gives me the same message. Help!
Hi Linda,
You'll want to ensure you're using the latest updates of Storyline 1 and 2.
Storyline 1 Update 8 is here and Storyline 2 Update 4 is here.
Thanks Ashley, that worked.

I'm currently downloading the current SL2 version, but while it's en route, is the issue in this thread explained by this message? I get it as soon as I try to open SL2. I clicked Yes, downloaded the new Flash, rebooted, but still get the message. If I say No, it aborts leaving me no way to get SL2 started. BTW, the message refers to Flash 10 or greater using IE. I don't use IE, I use Chrome.
Trying to download the update and it gets to (on both .exe and .zip version) about 4.1k and just stops downloading.
It's like I have no internet connection.
Hi Russ,
Yes, that error message matches the issue in this thread fixed by the recent updates to Storyline 2, Storyline 1, Studio '13 and Replay. You should be able to open Storyline 2 once you've installed the update as it was an issue with the new Flash Player 16.
Hi Tom,
I'm sorry to hear you haven't been able to download the update yet - have you checked your internet connection, trying to do the download from other browsers, etc.?
Thanks,
I had tried all the browsers, eventually it did just work (no change to internet as was at work)
Thanks
Tom
Thanks Tom for the update.
Has this problem effected any courses in Articulate Online? Within the past month, many people in my organization have had trouble accessing courses through Articulate Online. They say the course won't open, particularly when they try to start where they left off. I haven't been able to determine if this is an issue with our internal IT systems or something else.
Hello Karen!
Welcome to the community. This issue only stopped Storyline itself from opening. It did not have any impact on already published content.
Hi Karen,
There have been some Articulate Online performance issues this past month, but as Emily mentioned it has nothing to do with the Flash player 16 issue. You may want to bookmark this page: http://www.articulatestatus.com/ to stay up to date on current site performance issues.
Ran into a similar problem after FLASH update (16). Just re-installed Storyline and the issue has not reoccurred.
Thanks for sharing Michael.
Thanks Michael for sharing that update here and I'm glad Storyline is back up and working for you.
I've installed the latest version of Storyline and this works fine with Flash 16. Will all revisions of Flash 16 be supported as my organisation are about to deploy 16.0.0.305 (previously 16.0.0.269)?
Hi Andrew,
I haven't heard any issues yet with other versions of Flash 16 - so I'd expect it to work normally.
I have tried everything i can think of to install the newest update for Storyline 1 - which supposedly fixes this Flash issue. I finally uninstalled Storyline intending to do a fresh install, and now the installation keeps failing. What is going on? I really need this program to be working and I have been fighting with it for far too long now!
Hi Michelle,
Can you connect with our Support team here so that they can assist you in troubleshooting the issues you're having with installing the update?
I've got my IT guy taking a look, but if he can't figure it out we will get in touch with your support team for sure! The main issue right now is that it isn't downloading properly. It's only downloading a small portion of the file. So my guy here is going to see if he can figure out why.
Sounds great Michelle, and I hope that your IT guy is able to figure it out!
