A couple of basic questions for a newbie

Mar 19, 2016

Hi all

I am new to storyline2 and the forum and I have a couple of very basic questions. I am quite IT literate (considering my age) and have experience of Flash actionscript, a bit of javascript and visual basic for applications.

I am UK based teacher of Economics and Business Studies and I am looking to use Storyline to create materials that I will use for blended learning. I am currently looking at the trial and need to make sure that the expense can be justified before i take the plunge. Enough introductions, these are my basic questions.....

1 If I create a story with 10 scenes and 50 slides that the learner goes through, finishing some parts before others etc. What happens if the learner takes a break after scene 2 having completed compulsory sections and comes back later? I am looking at local implementation currently rather than LMS.

- Do I have to program saving progress so that when the learner comes back the states etc will all be loaded.

-or does Storyline save data automatically for me and if so how does storyline know when a different learner comes to complete the course.

2 I have added PDF files to resources and find that I when I start the launcher of the published "CD" files I am unable to launch the PDFs, storyline ignores the button clicks. I have looked for advice and ensured that security setting on Internet Explorer are ok but to no avail.

If I open the SWF file in a standalone viewer the files open ok and if I open the file via Internet Explorer directly using "ctrl O" then it works so it can quite easily complete the task.

The message from storyline after launching when I hit the button talks about hyperlinks not being supported.

I hope these are not too simple to be posted.

Regards

Brian
