a question regarding spell checking ...

Oct 14, 2017

Hi all,

When I spell check (F7) a project and I start checking on the first slide, the spelling window remains on slide 1, while I would love it to advance to the slide, it is just spell checking. Am I being clear?

I know, that I could "Change" directly, but most of the time I have to see the slide before I can correct the mistake. Why it isn't possible, to have the Spelling window advance with me, slide by slide? I could also imagine a button in the spelling window, that offers me a "jump to slide".

And why does the spell checking starts over on slide one, once it was closed, instead of continuing where it was, after beeing reopened?

Thanks in advance for your advice and best regards
Roland

Hi Roland!

Let's see if I'm following your report.

You would like the course in the background of your spelling check window to move to the slide currently being 'scanned'?

Like here, my image/slide is Slide 1.1, but my spelling error is Slide 1.2:

Did you know you can click where it says "Found at: 1.2 Untitled Slide" and jump right to see this issue in context?

For the other issue you mentioned, are you not correcting or ignoring the issues as you go through the spelling check? I'm not sure that I've seen an issue with this before.

If you have suggestions on how you would like to see this better handled, you are welcome to share your ideas and use-case with our team here.

Hi Leslie

Great to hear from you. And yes, you were following right. I really wasn't aware that that's a link that brings me directly to the correct slide/layer. Great stuff!

Which opens a follow-up question: How can I continue the spell checking, from where I was? It seems, that it keeps restarting from beginning, if I push F7 after a correction.

Have a great day, Roland

Gotcha - Nothing. That's what I see as well and you'd have to F7 to kick that off again. I think I may have been confusing you :) Oops, not my intent.

Here's what I meant (based on your video):

  • F7
  • Correct issue on 1.1
  • Jump to next issue, which is on layer 9 of slide 1.3
  • Jump to slide for context - correct any errors
  • F7 to start process over (skips over previous hits on 1.1 and 1.3 layer 9 since those have been corrected and proceeds to next error)

Hi Leslie

I'm back on this issue, as I just spell check one of my projects.

I understand your step-by-step argumentation. However, the storyline spell checker quickly miss-checks a word I had to write in English in a German text as error. Eg. Outbound/Inbound calls; we speak German here, but lot of profess. wording is in English.

In such cases I klick IGNORE ONCE to continue. Yet, this way this word pops up, each time I restart the spell check. Maybe I have to "ADD TO DICTIONARY", to avoid them? But sometimes I don't want to have them in the Dictionary.

Is the dictionary being reset to original state, when I start a new project?

A couple of attachments to visualize some examples.

Thx and have a nice weekend

Hi Roland,

The Storyline dictionary should be connected with Storyline, not each individual project. Using English and German words in the same project may display those spelling errors as Storyline is only referring to one dictionary at a time.

Ignoring it once will only ignore it at that word for that attempt at Spell check - meaning it'll be checked every time. Adding to the dictionary should allow it to remember the word between spell check moments.

Hi Ashley,

Thx for your reply. Sorry, that I'm not quite following your first paragraph. But what you tell me in the 2nd is promising. Let me see, if I understand right.

In German we have long words therefore I sometimes have to separate words which SL dict. always shows as an error. So if I understand right: I can add this shown error to the dictionary, so that spell check will skip it after I restart it but the word will only be for that spell check process in the dictionary? And when I spell check another project I will have the standard storyline dictionary again?

And what's the reason, if I cannot add words to the dictionary, as seen in my attachment  "storyline_spell-check1.png 91.8 KB"?

I hope not to put your patience to the test and appreciate your support

Hi Roland!

The opposite is what she's sharing, the German dictionary you're building will be for all your projects using German.

Did you manually make a change to the information? Add to Dictionary should be available when you first 'land' on the spelling error that is caught. If you make a manual change and select change, it will proceed to the next spelling error. If what you've 'changed' it to needs to be looked at again, then the editor will catch it and you can add it to the dictionary then if need be.

Sorry this has been such an adventure for you, but I appreciate your patience and willingness to learn :)
