A-Z Template

Dec 10, 2013

HI All--I have a group that is interested in a resource guide where a student has access to an A-Z on common terms in their classes. I know engage has a template for this, has any got ideas on how to set this up and have it available (maybe as a resource?) or pop up in the class in storyline?. As an example the class may be talking about "truffle" and we would like them to have the ability to click on a resource or pop up where they could get the definition and pronunciation of that item. We were thinking about maybe making a terms class and then using that same data for pop ups or refreshers throughout the class. Anyone done anything like this or have ideas?  Thanks.

Hi Jeff,

Take a look at this demo and see if it's along the lines of what you're trying to do: http://community.articulate.com/blogs/david/archive/2013/08/23/creating-a-custom-glossary-interaction-in-articulate-storyline.aspx

The main difference is you would use buttons for each letter rather than a text field to search. Storyline's slide layers are perfect for what you're trying to accomplish.

David-- I watched your example and get it pretty well.  In this example there may be 100+ terms in this glossary. I see how it will work, what is the best way to this tool available to the student in the class. As an example if they are in a red wine class and we have a wine terms glossary, how to I prompt them to get the glossary or where it live so would they would have access throughout the class? Having a hard time understanding the functionality and how it flows etc.

Hi Dave---I was wondering id i were to use the Glossary template in engage (seems more robust), can I create the glossary there and then insert it somehow into Storyline and make it available as a tab-resource throughout the class? I have a client that has a wine class and they want some terms available throughout the the class. I don't really care for the glossary tool in the player and thought this may be a good option but don't know how to make it work.  Thanks.

Hi Jeff,

There are a few ways you could set this up, first you can add your own Custom tabs to the Player within Storyline, and include a trigger such as below:

I used the "jump to slide" but you could also use the Lightbox slide trigger.

Also, if you're created an Engage glossary interaction you could insert that into Storyline using the method here.  That method currently only supports Engage 09, but if you're able to publish you Engage 13 glossary, you could insert that as a Web object within Storyline. Directions from Mike Enders are included in this thread.
