About swf images

Nov 14, 2013

Hello,

I publish a course in scorm 2004, 4th edition by using articulate story line. After published I uploaded this course in cloud.scorm LMS. In normal all swf images are displaying in all browsers but in LMS swf images are not displaying. So please help to solve this.

Thanks,

M.Chandrasekhar.

Hi Chandra:

Are your SWF files linked in the project or embedded?

Hi,

I am using swf images within the project. In preview it is fine. After published the course, I open normally with the file story.hml swf images displays fine in all browsers. But at the same time if I open with story_html5.html file, swf images are not displaying.

After uploaded in LMS and i checked course is displaying fine but in the place of swf images, blank space is coming.

Hi Chandra:

Storyline Preview mode uses an embedded Internet Explorer browser and plays the Flash version of the story.

SWF are only played in HTML, not HTML5. You have to convert them to video files (like MP4) to use them in HTML5. This is normal for all web technology.

Although your issue is not an Articulate issue, they could certainly do a better job, such as providing the ability to have alternate media loading based on version (Flash, HTML5, iPad) being displayed. Unfortunately, there is not built-in in Articulate Storyline to load alternate media.

As well, if I you insert a MP$ video under the SWF file in Storyline, the video will load and play while the SWF file will have a transparent background. This means when you load the MP4 as well as the SWF file in the Flash version, you will see both.

So in summary, your SWF not showing up in HTML5 is normal.

Hi Dennis,

Thanks a lot for the information.

We will not be able to convert the “.swf” files to “.MP4’ asit has interactivities. In addition, we are not publishing for iphone/ ipad. Our requirement is to make sure the course(s) work in different OS and browsersin systems and HTML publishing will work fine for us. We don’t need the courseto be published in HTML5 if it doesn’t support flash when we load them intoLMS.

Note: Here are the settings for publishing our courses.

In addition, we have published courses for LMS using HTML (withoutselecting HTML5 and iPad) but still it doesn’t work in SCORM Cloud LMS. We don’tsee the flash files in browsers using SCORM LMS.

I apologize Chandra, but I am having a hard time following.

Would you mind testing your course in SCORM Cloud to help us determine if the issue is Articulate related or if it's on your LMS's side? If it appears in SCORM Cloud as well, we'd be happy to take a closer look at what might be going on. If you can't replicate the issue in SCORM Cloud, it's probably an issue that you'd want to take to your LMS team.

Hi Dennis,

I created swf file with AS3, but still the issue remains. Here I attached two files one is AS2 and another one is AS3.

Note: Before we are used to publish a course using ILIAS. The swf files are display fine in SCORM ClOUD LMS. But now facing problem in articulate storyline.

Hi Chandra:

Unfortunately, I was unable to make it fail until I enabled my Flash debug player in FireFox. That condition does not reflect ony your SWF file, however, I can make many things fail in that combination due to my other overhead Flash debug plugins and add-ons.

My recommendation, since the file is static anyhow, publish it  without the loader frame. Omit frame 1 (your loader animation) from the output.

If you have any actual interactive SWF files, they should work (and remain interactive in Storyline) if you publish tehm without the loader frame.

Hi Dennis,

Thanks a lot for the information.

We are almost using interactive SWF files only. Before i attached SWF AS3 file is not having interactive because converting of AS2 to AS3 is taking time. So simple one I converted and attached.

Here I attached interactive SWF file with AS2. Please check it and let me know the correct solution.

Hi Dennis,

Thanks for your quick reply.

But nothing is displayed in the above link when clicking on AS3, AS2 buttons.

Note: Both SWF files (i.e AS2 and AS3 ) are working fine in offline. The issue is when uploaded the course in CLOUD SCORM LMS, SWF files are not displaying.

Please create a example course with the above swf files and upload in CLOUD SCORM and let me know the correct solution.

Hi Chandra:

The example I previously posted in this thread is the course with both your AS2 and AS3 file embedded.

The directions on the page tell you to click the buttons, then click the Next button to see that file.

When I view the link, I do see both files running and can interact with the AS2 file.

Do you have this same issue with other Flash based coruses you upload to an LMS or SCORM Cloud?

Hi Chandra,

I see that Dennis was able to test your file, and loaded it successfully within SCORM Cloud, and I tested that on my end and was able to click on the linked items. Although what Dennis shared matches the first file you uploaded, but doesn't seem to correspond with your most recent images? Did the link he provide for you not work on your end?

Hi Ashley,

Thanks for your reply.

The link which is given by Dennis is not working in my end. Here i attached the screen shots what i am seeing. I checked in all browsers it showing same.

Now I want to know that to install any plugins for display swf files in my system.

After uploading the course in LMS only i am facing this problem.

Please provide the details about this.

Hi Chandra,

You may need to update your Flash player , as the link Dennis shared worked for myself and another colleague (and obviously Dennis). If you're able to play it prior to loading in your LMS, and then when viewed in your LMS it doesn't work you'll want to connect with them to determine what could be causing the issue.
