Accessibility issue - losing focus from the main window when using keyboard

Dec 14, 2018

Hi, we are building a Storyline 3 course that needs to be accessible and compatible with JAWS 18.

When viewing the course in IE11 and using the tab key to move around the page, the focus box/frame often leaves the main window and tabs into the browser bar and tabs through the icons of the actual browser window such as the Search field, Home, Tools. After tabbing through these, the focus returns back to the course. But that's not even always the case.

This issue seems to mostly appear on pages where the user needs to interact with clickable buttons.

Full accessibility is incredibly important to our client. We've researched extensively but can't find a solution. Would you be able to provide any insight into what can be causing this or ways of fixing it?

Hi, Paula. So sorry you've come across this problem.

I'd love to lend a hand! Can you tell me a bit more about your project?

  • What Storyline 3 update are you using? To check, click the Help tab > click About Storyline
  • Did you publish the course for Web, LMS, or something else?
  • Do you experience the same behavior in another browser, or is it limited to IE11?
  • If you can publicly share the Storyline .story file here, please use the Add Attachment button in your reply. If the content is sensitive, you can privately share it via this link. We'll test it in a similar environment and let you know what we see!

Looking forward to helping!
