Accessing courses without an LMS

Aug 06, 2014

I have a client who wants to launch an on line curriculum available to users across the country. The course will have several branches and questions asked at the beginning of the course determine which modules the learner sees.

I realize I can use a variable or set of variables to control the sequence of topics. If this course is accessed on a server (not an LMS), does Storyline have the ability to store and keep a variable to track progress, user name, etc? Or does that require code to accomplish that functionality?

Hi Ken,

If you're publishing for web, you'd need to enabled the resume behavior and also consider your slide revisiting properties to help determine what a user sees and has access to upon returning to the course. The Resume behavior will rely on the Flash cookies associated with their browser, so if they were to clear out their history and cache/cookies that information would be reset.

In regards to sharing that progress with a manager or similar, we don't support tracking in a database or excel document, although there may be community members who could help you set up some code to share that information.
