Adding a check mark to main slide once chapter quizzes are taken

May 28, 2013

Hello All - We are using a bullentin board concept with 5 sticky notes as our main navigation board for users. Basically each sticky note is its own chapter, so once they complete a chapter/scene, they are returned to the bullentin board.

We want to be able to mark the sticky note with a check mark once the user has completed that chapter (scene) and taken that chapter quiz to help with navigation.  I am thinking there must be a way to do this...but haven't found it yet.

Is this doable?

Hi Amy,

I'm not sure if this would work for you, or how many scenes you're currently working with, but I thought I'd share a suggestion.

What you could do is create a True/False variable for each scene, with an initial value of "False". That variable could be adjusted to "True" when the user interacts with some content in the final portion of that scene. This really depends on how you have the course designed, though. Are you using a custom button to return to the bulletin board, or are you simply using the "Next" button to jump from that final slide? Either way, you should be able to trigger that variable change.

Create a state for the sticky notes on your bulletin board slide, if you haven't already. Initiate that state change, when the timeline starts, if that variable equals true.

If you'd like to share your .STORY file here, I'd be happy to take a look and see if I can come up with a way to get this working, or some other suggestions.

Thanks!

I second Christine's suggestion.  I used this setup for a customer service course I put together.  I had a variable for each section defaulted to "false", and when they would complete the section I had a trigger to change the variable to "true".  Here's what the state change looks like:

And here's the trigger:

Hope that helps!
