Adding a template to all my quiz slides

Aug 28, 2012

I am sure the answer is here somewhere but I can't find it as yet - so apologizes in advance.

For example I want to make a ten slide quiz with the eleventh slide as an intro and possibly a twelfth as a goodbye slide. I have my own pre-made template but I cannot seem to add it to slides 2-11. Slide 1 and 12 are ok as they are normal slides but the quiz slides - well, I cannot find how to add that pesky template. Or do I have to go back to Quizmaker - make the quiz and then add it to storyline?

Apologizes again if this is somewhere. After three hours I'm growing weary of trying to figure it out.

Thank you all - it's still the most pro-active forum around.

Hey Richard, can you say a bit more about what you mean by template? You mentioned you have a pre-made template... how did you make it and where does it reside? Are you just wanting to create a standard look and feel on your quiz questions? Maybe you could attach a screenshot or a sample slide here to show what you want your questions to look like?

Hi Jeanette,

I used your chalkboard template and added my logo and a space at the bottom to add sources then I saved it in the template folder.

Yes, I am just trying to use this template as the background on all my quiz slides. I cannot seem to figure it out in storyline.....if i can figure this out then I want to make a bank of quizzes for my ESL students taken from their course books. Then I can just add a vocabulary spot quiz, or grammar quiz or .... whatever, as and when I feel/need it.

I especially want to develop a branching project for each subject and then just add the quizzes as I go along - especially as some of the Listening and Reading subjects could well use the same vocabulary et al quizzes. Maybe it will take me all this coming year to do it but then I will have it for the following years in which I will only need to smarten it up.

I had something similar with PPT and OHP slides but they are looking dusty and shabby and with the onslaught of computer whiteboards and OHPs in all classes along with wi-fi one has to catch up with technology at some point. One will have to pull ones long tooth out methinks.

Thanks,

Richard

Hey Richard, see if this helps: https://player.vimeo.com/video/204931952

Sounds like you'll want to customioze your slide master layouts in Storyline, so that the layout you use for quiz questions contains any persistent content that you want to appear on all quiz slides. You can learn more about slide master layouts in Storyline in this tutorial

Hi Jeanette,

The screenr is great - however when I am importing from the QM template I see the three different pictures just like you have but when I click on Use current scene then import I don't get the chalkboard with the brown frame, nor the one with the white paper - jsut the normal one and a results chalkboard. I have selected, deseleted - downloaded the templates again. Opened up a new project, restarted my computer - done all the obvious things I can think of but those two pictures just aren;t importing.

I'm continuing with the blank chalkboard for the moment but it would be good to have some different backgrounds....I really don;t understand why these pictures import for you and not for me though.

But thanks for your quick responses on this - saved me some work at least.

Hi Richard - I'm sorry that's happening! I'm not able to reproduce the issue... when you import from the Quizmaker file, are all three of the slides selected (highlighted in yellow) as in the picture below? If so, and if you're still not getting them to import as expected, would you mind submitting a screencast to our support team so that they can watch the steps you're using? You can do that by completing this page: http://www.articulate.com/support/contact/submit.php and then when you click Send Request, you'll see a place to describe the issue and a button to record a screencast. (The screencast is private and only our support team will see it.) Thanks so much!

Hi Jeanette,

I couldn't get the Send Request button to display a details section. Not having much luck this week.

I do get the three files imported then it all goes wrong. I have taken a video in storyline and posted it on my website here. You should be able to see your name at the top of the page where you see my pitiful videoing techniques......

Sorry to be such a pain..........

Hi again Richard, and please, no apology necessary ... thanks for creating the video and I agree it's interesting that you're not seeing the same behavior. Have you installed the recent update to Storyline? If not, that's the only thing that I can think of that might be causing the difference. In the meantime, I've created a Storyline file with the chalkboard slides in it, and attached it to this post, so at least you'll have that to work with. Once you unzip the file, you can open it in Storyline, go to View > Slide Master and copy/paste the chalkboard elements (the wood-frame chalkboard and the picture of the pieces of paper) into your own Storyline slides, and then modify as needed.  I hope that helps.

Hi Jeanette,

Ok - I have updated to version 1 and seem to still have the same problem. But the zipped files is working so no worries.

If I can figure it out how to get the originals working like your screenr then I'll let you know. Thanks for the patience. Now I have no excuse not to fill my website up with quizzes for my students. There's always a downside.........

Thanks again,,

Richard
