Adding Motion Paths to a Slider

Feb 13, 2018

Hello everyone,

I am trying to create scrolling website-like interaction controlled by a slider.

The idea being that when using the slider to scroll down through the page, text would appear and then move in relation to the slider.

Moving the text box in one direction is fine using a motion path with a relative start point assigned to the slider - However I can’t figure out how to move the text in the opposite direction when the slider is moving from bottom to top.

I tried adding two motion paths (up & down) to be controlled when the slider moves, but I can't work out how to distinguish between when the slider is moved up and down.

I’ve attached an example. Any help would be HUGELY appreciated.

THANK YOU.

The easiest way to do this is to customize a second slider and change the button to be an image of what you want to slide. Then set the two sliders on the same slider variable, reverse their starting and ending points, and resize the imaged button to be the right size.

If you rotate the slider, be sure your starting image is rotated the opposite way before you fill the button with it.

I've modified your file to show you what I mean.

Thank you so much for the input, guys.

Craig - I love the image as a thumb slider trick.. very cool! However, for the interaction I am trying to get to, I wanted to have the ability to trigger the objects (text boxes) at various times, dependent on the location of the slider.

Micheal - your example is pretty much what I was trying to get to - adding a variable to track the past value of the slider variable but there is a small snag I am running in to...

The slider triggers the motion paths both up and down but there seems to be some randomness on the returning point of the object, it does not always go back to it;s original starting point (normally when the slider is moved at speed).

Could the slider be missing steps? Or jumping values trying to keep up with the speed of the slider?

Does anyone know of a way to get around this problem?  Could an additional variable be added to count the exact steps / values that have occurred and have the motion paths linked to these?

Thank you !
