Adding Multiple CC

Jul 10, 2019

I have tried to add the Closed Captioning (CC)  in multiple languages (like Japanese, Chinese) for an articulate project. But I found only one CC can be added to the developed project. Are you planning to add an option to include multiple CC text for the project?

I had gone through the articulate community and I found that the people suggest using the layers and markers. I don't want to use those.

Can you please let me know if there is any other tool which helps me to include a multiple CC to the articulate project.

Hello Gangadhar,

Thanks for sharing, I can see how having multiple languages in a closed caption would be helpful. Right now, you are able to add one closed caption, so that would make a great feature request! Share with our team how this feature would be beneficial for you and your users!

For the time being, you can change the font style in the closed captions which is a great way to differentiate the multiple languages in the same CC. I'll show you how I did that!

Hello Michel and Kelly,

Thank you for reaching out and voicing what you would like to see added for Closed Captions. I can see how this would be beneficial! I've shared this with my team and added your input to a report we're tracking for this feature.

Since you're subscribed to this thread, you'll be notified of any future updates posted about this feature request!

Here's a little insight on how we manage feature requests like this!

Well, I was initially shocked that Storyline didn't provide multiple language CCs for videos, but I've just done a test and there are some quite easy workarounds, in my opinion.

In my course, I will have a single video that requires alternative language CC's the be available, so I simply created a slide layer that shows when the slide timeline starts and it has buttons on it for each language. Then I created layers for each language and copy/pasted the video onto each layer. I then set the CC's up for each language on the videos on each layer.

I also set up triggers to show the required layer, based on which button was pressed by the learner.

The good thing with this is that the same video is placed onto each layer so the course doesn't increase in size with each video used.

And, if I need different languages to be available across multiple points in the course, I will resort to having a language choice slide at the beginning of the video which will set a variable so I can then call on that variable across the course to hide/show the relevant content as needed.
