Adding Triggers on Disable Next button

Hi there,
Wondering if someone knows if you are able to add a trigger to a disabled Next button:
I have disabled the next button until all interactions on the slide are complete. I am using a T/F Variable to change the state of the Next button.
What I'm trying to accomplish is showing an "Error" layer if the learner tries to click on the Next button before completing all interactions on slide. I thought it would be a simple "Show layer IF variable equals False" but it doesn't seem to be working, which leads me to believe you can't add triggers to disabled states? Can someone confirm or maybe provide a workaround/fix?
Thanks,
Eric Fava

When a button/object is disabled, it doesn't respond to triggers. Also, I don't quite see the need for both, a disabled Next button AND displaying the incomplete layer. I would either disable the Next button untill the slide interaction is complete OR have the Next button enabled and display the layer.
Thanks for the response Michael - I figured it had to do with the disabled state.
And to respond to your comment about why doing both - we've encountered some learners who don't read the onscreen instructions or don't understand what they need to do, so we wanted to "alert" them in a popup as to why the next is disabled.
Enabling the Next button and displaying the layer would do the trick.
Thanks!
Eric
