I understand that if I select step-by-step try or view mode after recording my screen, it will not play the recorded audio.
Do have access to the record file to import into a 3rd party software like Camtasia to create individual voice files to be added to the step slides? Or do I have to re-record the voice and insert those into each slide?
Correct, voice isn't recorded in step-by-step recordings, because they're inserted in snippets for interaction. These sections are spread out among your slides.
So, if you were able to create audio files from this in Camtasia, you'd still need to insert into each segment of the recording. It would probably be faster to insert quick voice recordings for each slide from Storyline.
If, however, you don't necessarily need to include your interactions, you could insert the same recording as a single video and the audio should still be there. I understand if that's not an option, just wanted to let you know that it's available, just in case :)
Is it possible to locate the voice file that Storyline records when we do the screen recording to create the voice file to add to the slide? I am trying to avoid doing a 2nd voice recording.
I believe, and I may be wrong, that the audio is inserted into a video/MP4 file. If that's the case, you wouldn't be able to extract the audio.
If I'm wrong, I'm sure someone will chime in and let you know ;)
In either case, though, the original voice recording will be one long recording. You wouldn't be able to play it across multiple slides. Having said that, however, you may still be able to break it apart in Camtasia like you mentioned earlier.
Does Camtasia allow you to record audio from your speakers, instead of your microphone? If so, you could play the original screen recording and have Camtasia record the audio. Then you could break it up and insert the audio files. I haven't used that program, though, so I'm not sure if that's something it could do.
I have been using Camtasia to break current audio and video files into meaningful chunks for our eLearning modules. I will have to play around with it to see if I can get it to pick up the speaker voice in good quality.

Glad to hear I am on the right track.
