I know you can rename the slides, but it doesn't let you change the slide numbering, this seems to be fixed.
It's for reviewing purposes. Essentially the content authors have a template which they've created (a storyboard). They've scripted each slide out and for reviewing/revision purposed they've numbered it using the Storyline numbering convention i.e. 1.1, 1.2, 1.3 etc..
When a change needs to be made they can contact the developers (i.e. me and others) inform them of the change and what slide it occurs on. Some of the scripts are hundreds of pages long so makes life a lot easier.
The slide numbering on some of the modules for certain slides gets a little difficult as they have for example created 1.10a, 1.10b, 1.10c. Storyline doesn't seem to let me renumber in this way.
You're right, Naseem. Storyline numbers slides automatically, but I can certainly see why the ability to customize the numbering would be tremendously helpful in your project. I'd be happy to pass all of your feedback along to our product team on your behalf. Thanks for sharing your idea with us!

Hi Naseem,
you can rename slides in the menu, but you have to do this for every single slide.
