Adjusting Variable issue

Jun 25, 2013

I have set up a menu slide with 3 options on it with the 3rd one set to an initial state of hidden.

When they have clicked on the 1st 2 options, i've set up a number variable that changes the state of the 3rd option to normal.

The number variable has the the options set to a value of 1 meaning that when they have clicked both the value of 2 then changes the state of the 3rd option.

When i preview the slide on it's own, it works fine. Once i have clicked both options the 3rd option appears.

When i preview the whole project it doesn't work at all. I have added a reference to test it which stays at 0 when previewing the whole project.

As it's a menu slide it means leaving the slide every time you click an option and returning to it at the end.

Can anyone tell me what i am doing wrong?

if you have a jump to trigger before any trigger then other triggers will not fire on preview it does not jump to so the trigger fires, if it is a menu it would be better practice to do the variable change on the last slide of the section rather than the link that jumps to that section

Ok. I'll try that. Would a number variable be best? The option that appears is the assessment and i want to ensure that they have completed the 1st 2 chapters before the option of an assessment appears

Hi Colin.

I've uploaded a word doc with images. I kept getting a 404 message every time i tried to upload the course.

Image 1 is a screen shot of the slide & it's timeline, 2 is a shot with the variable & 3 is a shot of the trigger.

This is a copy of my initial attempt. I tried the same approach using buttons at the end of the chapter but it still did not worj

After looking at your .docx, I think the issue is the order of your triggers. Try moving up the Add 1 to Assessment trigger above the Jump to trigger on the two text objects.

The reason it works in Single Slide preview is because you never actually jump anywhere, so Storyline will still see the Add trigger. When it is on Project Preview, the slide jumps before it sees the Add trigger. Hope that works!

+1, as I said before trigger order is important.  The jump to trigger should normally be the last trigger on any button or object, unless you are using conditions.
