Advanced Storyline editing/debugging (pseudo SDK)

Sorry, I wasn't sure what to call this thread but hopefully the terms I put up will trigger the programmers to respond.
I would like to know if there's any tag or variable I can attach to an image, like a class name, id, JS variable, etc, that will carry thru the publishing process so I can target that image with JavaScript after the publish is complete. This is for HTML5 publishing only, btw.
For example, if I wanted to apply a custom CSS style to an image after publishing, I'd like to know if there's a built-in way I can identify that image, either by its encompassing div or otherwise.

You could use the alt tag
Good info, how do I apply an alt tag to an image of my choosing? Unlike Adobe products where there is a "Properties" window for an object, I don't see any such thing when I select an object on my canvas.
right click, size and position and alt tag is at the bottom, should probably be renamed properties
