After downloading project on iPad, videos require wi-fi

Nov 19, 2012

Hi Everyone,

We have a large training that we made available on the iPad. We can successfully download it for viewing offline and can view most of the content without a wi-fi connection. When we have wi-fi turned off there are some videos we can't view. Is there a file size limitation in terms of whether a video will be downloaded or not? The total file size of the project, including all media, is about 100 MB.

Thanks,

Shawn

Hi Shawn,

Initially, you will need to be connected via wi-fi to download the content. However, after the initial connection and download, you should be able to view the content offline. You may want to make sure you're publishing the content correctly. Take a look a this article.

By any chance are you linking to videos from another source or website?

Hi Christine,

Thanks for your reply. Yes, I've been connected to wi-fi before downloading it. I actually test wi-fi/online performance with each build before then downloading to check download times and performance. All of the videos work except the last few videos in the course (the last module). They are the largest videos in the project.

The videos are in the story file themselves. I can select and play them from the output folder. They will play when a wi-fi connection is established, but not when I turn it off (again, everything has been downloaded).

So I can't see anything to say that the files are corrupted, because they play fine when a wi-fi connection is turned on. They just don't play when I turn off wi-fi.

Thanks,

Shawn

Hi Shawn,

Thanks for getting back to me! That does sound strange, especially since the other videos are playing properly. I'm wondering if it has something to do with their size (you mentioned they were the largest). If you'd like, we can take a closer look at the files. Please submit a support case with us and include your .story file in the case.

I'm really curious about what might be causing this. If you can, please share your case number with me, so I can follow the progress of the case. If you'd like to keep the number private, you're more than welcome to send it to me in a private message.

Thanks again, Shawn!

Hi Christine,

I've started a support case. The number is: 00306110

While the overall project isn't that complicated, the file size is about .5 GB. We have some overly complicated slides unfortunately, but most of the file size comes from the videos we've included. We included the videos inside the project because it is important to us to have it completely offline. Our audience travels frequently, so we want access on a plane.

Thanks!
