Align to Playhead fails if Animating by First Level Paragraph...

Jul 30, 2012

Hello...

Can anyone replicate this?

If a text box is animated to, for example, "Fly in from left by 1st level paragraph", then I cannot get the "Align to Playhead" to function - in either direction, forwards or backwards.

I have already logged it as a Bug, but just wanted to double-check that I was not being dumber than a dumb thing.

I cannot think of a sensible reason why this would be built-in functionality.

Thanks

Bruce

Basically, you (I) use it if I screw up and position something in the Timeline in the wrong place.

Then I just hit "Home", highlight the object, and select "Align to Playhead", and it places it where I want it.

It can (of course...) be used for more "planned" movement scenarios.

As for the "...see..." designator, perhaps they were waiting for this to be fixed before completing the sentence

OK - so here's the official answer:

"...This will only happen for grouped objects. If you expand the group you can align to playhead for individual objects in the group.

We don’t stop you from dragging the group though..."

So  - basically, if you have, for example, a text box and you change the animation from for example "Fade" to "Fade by First Level Paragraph", because it is now viewed as a group it no longer responds to the Align to Playhead command, even if you are trying to use it to set the position of the whole group to start with. You have to drag it.

This all seems very strange to me, however, at least we now know why - Groups of Objects do not respond to Align to Playhead.

Tx, Bruce. Just ungrouped and text is "cooperating."

Here's a related grouping "unfunctionality" that I'd replied to here

Basically, if you put a picture into a shape, group it and rotate, the picture doesn't rotate. But, if you ungroup, shift+click and rotate, everything rotates and then you can group if necessary.
