ALT-Text on a .png not working

Aug 02, 2012

I have created a custom button using a image (.png file format), and set up a trigger to jump to a specific scene when clicked. I am now trying to write ALT- Text for a JAWS user thet describes this image button, and its action.  When reviewing using JAWS it only reads the file name of the image (Module1.png) and not the ALT-Text I have inputted. The ALT-Text is working for other assets such as Text Boxes, and Regular Buttons.

Any advice would be appreciated.

Jeremy,

A few thoughts that I've discerned on this topic lately...

1. Are you on the latest version of JAWS?

2. Which browser are you using?  Chrome can mess things up.  I hear IE9 is actually okay for this.

If neither of the above, please submit a support case as this isn't expected behavior.

Hi Jeremy, this is due to the Storyline bug which I have described here

The video in my post demonstrates why this is happening and shows you a workaround for it. Essentially, you'll have to create all your buttons again from scratch! This is a ridiculous and tedious workaround (especially if you have many buttons that you wish to duplicate) which is why I am still hoping that the Articulate team will address this bug in an update someday.

Hope this helps, and it would be great if you could submit this as a new support case, as that *may* help the team to address this bug as a priority. Thanks!
